Imagery-based Treatment for Test Anxiety: A Multiple-baseline Open Trial
Test anxiety (TA), a condition which affects as many as 20% of students (see Hill& Wigfield, 1984; Holm-Hadulla et al., 2009), involves excessive negative thoughts about poor performance or failure in exams or other situations characterized by evaluation, as well as about the possible consequences of such performance. Students with high TA are more likely to be female, and have perfectionistic tendencies, which are maladaptive or unhelpful (Eum& Rice, 2011). TA is manifested in phenomenological, physiological, and behavioral responses (Zeidner, 1998; Zeidner& Matthews, 2011). (Source: Journal of Affective Disorders)

Effect of Self-Monitoring Through Experience Sampling on Emotion Differentiation in Depression
People can experience a vast range of emotions and oftentimes even feel multiple emotions at the same time. As some of these emotions can be quite similar, it can sometimes be difficult to discriminate between them. The ability to make nuanced distinctions and differentiate between emotions is called emotion differentiation (e.g. Barrett et al., 2001). Emotions can influence cognitive processes, which then help to regulate and shape behaviors (Baumeister et al., 2007). Barrett and colleagues (2001) showed that participants who were better in differentiating their negative emotions more often employed adaptive emotion regul...

Inflammation associated with volume reduction in the gray matter and hippocampus of older patients with bipolar disorder
Studies on bipolar disorder (BD) have suggested the involvement of immune system dysfunctions in the disease activity of BD (Goldsmith et al., 2016). Furthermore, progressive neuropathological processes (Berk et al., 2011) and various mood phases (Tsai et al., 1999; 2012; 2014) in BD may be linked to alterations in inflammatory cytokines. Microglia, the concentration of which is particularly high in the hippocampus, primarily mediate innate immunity and are involved in most inflammatory processes in the central nervous system (CNS) (Badoer, 2010; Perry et al., 1993). The efficacy of adjunctive N-acetylcysteine in acute bipolar depression: a randomized placebo-controlled study
Bipolar depression is challenging to treat, partly due to few available treatments (Grunze et al., 2013). Therefore, search for new treatment options are warranted, and over the recent years, N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has been examined in bipolar disorder (BD) and other mental and neuropsychiatric disorders (Berk et al., 2013; Dean et al., 2011; Deepmala et al., 2016; Minarini et al., 2017). Additionally, NAC has been used in other areas of medicine for almost four decades (D. and Conner, 1978) and is currently used for treating paracetamol overdose (Dringen and Hirrlinger, 2003), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Atkuri...

Predictors of depressive symptoms in college students: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies
Depressive symptoms are extremely prevalent in college students nowadays which is typically characterized by sad, loss of interest, hopeless, nervous or anxious feelings and even suicidal ideation (Kessler et al., 2003; Ceyhan et al., 2009; Tomoda eta al., 2000; Wang et al., 2017). According to the results of different meta-analyses, the prevalence of depressive symptoms is higher among college students compared to the general population or non-college students (Ibrahim et al., 2013; Mikolajczyk et al., 2008; Blanco et al., 2008; Rotenstein et al., 2016; Lei et al., 2016; Ovuga et al., 2006). Effects of childhood trauma on adult moral decision-making: clinical correlates and insights from bipolar disorder
Empirical investigations of moral psychology in the past 15 years have made substantial use of the theoretical framework known as the “dual process theory (DPT)”, proposed by Greene and colleagues (2004). DPT introduced a method to tease apart emotional and cognitive component processes in moral decision-making, known as the “moral dilemmas” paradigm. Moral dilemmas are short vignette-type scenarios which face the study pa rticipant with a difficult yes/no decision, in which both answers generally involve harm being caused to a person (or people). Cortical Thickness and Volume Reductions in Young Adults with Current Suicidal Ideation
Research in brain structural abnormalities of young adults with suicidal ideation may inform clinical interventions to prevent suicide. 36,000 individuals die from suicide annually (Nature, 2014),  it is the 2nd leading cause of death among individuals ages 15-24 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013), and is associated with major depressive disorder (MDD) (Bridge et al., 2006). Risk of attempting suicide among depressed individuals may be related to cortical structural abnormal ities (Peng et al., 2016). Diagnostic consequences of a new category of anxious depression and a reduced duration requirement for anxiety symptoms in the ICD-11 PHC
The World Health Organization (WHO) Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse is coordinating the development of the Mental, Behavioural, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders chapter of the Eleventh Revision of the International Classifications of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11), including a version of the mental disorders classification for use in primary care settings, the ICD-11 PHC (Goldberg, 2011; Goldberg, Prisciandaro and Williams, 2012). For the previous version of the classification, the ICD-10, WHO had also produced a classification of mental disorders intended for primary care settings, the ICD-1...

Subjective and physiological response to emotions in temporal lobe epilepsy and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures
In both epilepsy and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) there is a high prevalence of comorbid mood disorders which are often described as the main factor contributing to poorer quality of life (Garcia, Garcia-Morales,& Gil-Nagel, 2015; Szaflarski et al., 2003). PNES are involuntary episodes of alteration of consciousness and disturbance of sensory, motor, autonomic or cognitive functions that can be misdiagnosed as epileptic seizures. They are not caused by abnormal electrical discharges in the brain and are thought to be mainly triggered by emotional distress (Brown, Syed, Benbadis, LaFrance,& Reuber, 2011). (Sour...

Eating pattern and psychological symptoms: a cross-sectional study based on a national large sample of Chinese adolescents
The mental health of adolescents is a pressing issue in global public health. The Global Burden of Disease Study shows that mental disorders were the main cause of disability adjusted of life years (DALY) of 10-24 year-old adolescents from 1990 to 2013 (Mokdad et al., 2016). Mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, and conduct disorder increased in ranking global age standardized DALY rates from 1990 to 2015 (Kassebaum et al., 2017). The epidemiological data shows that the prevalence of anxiety was 31.9%, behavioral disorders were 19.1%, emotional disorders were 14.3%, and substance use disorders were 11.4% in America...

Disentangling the Association of Depression on the Anti-fatigue Effects of Ketamine
Fatigue and depression are complex constructs, but their association is well documented (Bakshi et al., 2000; Jacobsen et al., 2003; Brown& Kroenke, 2009). Both significantly influence the capacity to perform everyday actions and endorse greater functional disability (Lin et al., 2013; Milanovic et al., 2018). They have been strongly correlated in multiple reports (Bakshi et al., 2000; Jacobsen et al., 2003; Brown& Kroenke, 2009). However, some evidence suggests that depression and fatigue are distinct constructs, for example, it was observed that fatigue symptoms persist even after the remission of depression (Ferguson et...

Changes in levels of cortical metabotropic glutamate 2 receptors with gender and suicide but not psychiatric diagnoses
We have reported that, compared to controls, there are lower levels of [3H]LY341495 binding in Brodmann's area (BA) 24, but not BA 17 or 46, from subjects with major depressive disorders (MDD) (McOmish et al., 2016). [3H]LY341495 binding was not altered in those three cortical regions from subjects with bipolar disorders (BD) or schizophrenia. As [3H]LY341495 binds to the mammalian metabotropic glutamate receptors (GRM) 2 and 3 (Johnson et al., 1999; Wright et al., 2001), our data is consistent with the notion that there is a decrease in the total number of GRM2 plus GRM3 in BA 24 from subjects with MDD. Diet and physical activity in the association between depression and metabolic syndrome: Constances study
Depression is associated with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome that contributes to the poor cardiovascular health of depressed individuals. A meta-analysis showed that individuals with depression had a 1.5 times higher odds of having a metabolic syndrome (Vancampfort et al., 2014). Although the exact mechanisms underlying this association are poorly known, several hypotheses have been proposed. Depression and metabolic syndrome may share some common alterations of the stress system which could lead to a low grade inflammatory state and to oxidative stress which damages the neurons as well as the pancreatic cells and...

The relationship between alcohol abuse and suicide risk according to smoking status: A cross-sectional study
Suicide is a common cause of death in most developed countries (Bae et al., 2015). In Korea, it was the fourth leading cause of death (28.1 per 100,000) in 2012 (Statistics Korea, 2013). Additionally, Korea is ranked first among the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries in suicide mortality (OECD, 2013). (Source: Journal of Affective Disorders)

Symptoms of social anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder: A network perspective
Social anxiety disorder (SAD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) are among the most prevalent disorders worldwide (Kessler  et al., 2005), and investigators have documented their high rate of comorbidity (Beesdo et al., 2007; Brown et al., 2001; Kessler et al., 2005; Ohayon and Schatzberg, 2010; Stein et al., 2001).4 Further, these disorders have been found to be associated with greater impairment when they co-occ ur than when either occurs alone (Norton et al., 2008). Despite these findings, however, we have only a limited understanding of the nature of the comorbidity of these disorders (Langer and Rodebaugh, ...
