The Role of Alcohol Biomarkers in Detecting a Physician's COVID-19-Related Acute Stress Response: A Case Report
Conclusions: Inhalation of ethanol vapors was initially accepted as a possible explanation for the positive EtG/EtS results, though the physician later acknowledged that limited alcohol beverage consumption occurred 6 days prior to the positive test, further complicating its interpretation. Detection of aberrant behavior through ongoing monitoring helps to protect both healthcare workers and the patients they serve. (Source: Journal of Addiction Medicine)

Low Threshold Telemedicine-based Opioid Treatment for Criminal Justice Involved Adults During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Report
We describe a case report of the novel role of tele-conferencing for the provision of buprenorphine-naloxone for jail-released adults with opioid use disorder experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic. The patient is a 49-year-old male with severe opioid use disorder released from New York City jail as part of its early release program. He then started using diverted buprenorphine-naloxone, and 1 month later a harm-reduction specialist at his temporary housing at a hotel referred him to an affiliated buprenorphine provider and then eventually to the New York City Health + Hospitals Virtual Buprenorphine Clinic...

Low-Threshold Buprenorphine via Community Partnerships and Telemedicine—Case Reports of Expanding Access to Addiction Treatment During COVID-19
Conclusion: These 3 cases illustrate examples of how policy changes allowing for telemedicine buprenorphine prescribing can expand availability of addiction services for patients with OUD who were previously disengaged for reasons including geography, lack of housing, transportation difficulties, and mistrust of traditional healthcare systems. Micro-dosing Intravenous Buprenorphine to Rapidly Transition From Full Opioid Agonists
We report a novel approach to micro-dosing using intravenous buprenorphine. Two patients, one on methadone maintenance and another requiring postoperative opioid analgesia, were transitioned to buprenorphine with concurrent full-agonist opioids and without precipitated withdrawal. Statewide Availability of Buprenorphine/Naloxone in Acute Care Hospitals
Conclusions: In 1 predominately rural state with an opioid overdose death rate higher than the national average, approximately half of acute care hospitals had buprenorphine/naloxone available to patients on their inpatient formulary. Efforts to increase buprenorphine/naloxone availability in hospitals are needed, particularly in rural areas where there may not be other locations to access treatment for opioid use disorder. Pregnant Patients Using Opioids: Treatment Access Barriers in the Age of COVID-19
Conclusions: Almost half of the buprenorphine clinics in North Carolina turned away pregnant patients before the pandemic. During the pandemic, only 34% accepted pregnant patients, with 33% clinics that had provided medication treatment before the pandemic declining to treat pregnant patients for OUD. Thus, it is critical that policymakers ensure OUD treatment clinics accept pregnant patients. (Source: Journal of Addiction Medicine)

A Telemedicine Buprenorphine Clinic to Serve New York City: Initial Evaluation of the NYC Public Hospital System's Initiative to Expand Treatment Access During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Conclusions: Telemedicine-based opioid treatment and unobserved home induction on buprenorphine-naloxone offers a safe and feasible approach to expand the reach of opioid use disorder treatment, primary care, and behavioral health for a highly vulnerable urban population during an unprecedented natural disaster. Utilization of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder Across US States: Relationship to Treatment Availability and Overdose Mortality
Conclusions: High patient volume relative to treatment availability in overdose-burdened areas may indicate strain on MOUD providers and OTPs. Promoting greater utilization while expanding MOUD providers and programs is critical. (Source: Journal of Addiction Medicine)

Geriatric Conditions Among Middle-aged and Older Adults on Methadone Maintenance Treatment: A Pilot Study
Conclusions: Older adults on MMT in 2 large opioid treatment programs have a high prevalence of geriatric conditions. An interdisciplinary, geriatric-based approach to care that focuses on function and addresses geriatric conditions is needed to improve the health of this growing population. Rates of Dual Diagnosis in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatients: A Scoping Review
Conclusions: We located 14 studies, but methodologic heterogeneity precluded quantitative calculation of a single estimate for the prevalence of dual diagnosis. However, most of the rates suggest that this is an important problem in CAP inpatients, meriting further research. We suggest ways to improve future studies. (Source: Journal of Addiction Medicine)

The Effects of Early Onset Tranquilizers, Sedatives, and Sleeping Pills Use on Recent Consumption Among Adolescents
This study used individualized secondary data retrieved from the 2016 Spanish State Survey on Drug Use in Secondary Education (16–18-year-olds), and included all subjects who reported having taken TSSp at any point, but excluded those who had started during the previous year (n = 1502). Logistic regression models were used to obtain adjusted odds ratios (aOR) for associations between early TSSp consumption ( (Source: Journal of Addiction Medicine)
