Association of household language and vision screening among children in the United States
This study analyzed the 2018-2020 National Survey of Children ’s Health to examine patterns and predictors of vision testing among children from NEPL households. In this nationally representative cohort of 89,697 children 3-17 years of age, 70.9% of children received vision testing during the previous 12 months. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

Otoscopy-assisted intranasal cyst marsupialization for congenital dacryocystocele
We describe 3 infants with congenital dacryocystocele resistant to conservative treatment who were treated with a novel, simple intranasal cyst marsupialization (ICM) technique. Otoscopy-guided ICM was performed by an otolaryngologist in the manner of otoscopic myringotomy for cases with nasal cyst distension. All 3 infants were treated successfully by a single surgical procedure under topical anesthesia in an office setting. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

Lensectomy as treatment for refractory or progressive retinopathy of prematurity narrow-angle glaucoma
We present the case of a patient with a history of laser-treated retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) who developed narrow angles and intermittent angle closure. Despite laser peripheral iridotomy/iridoplasty, 1 year later, the patient had recurrent narrowing that resolved following clear lens extraction with intraocular lens placement. This case highlights the importance of continued monitoring for narrow angles in patients with ROP history. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

Alstr öm syndrome mimicking spasmus nutans: report of a novel ALMS1 variant
We report the case of an otherwise healthy 6-year-old girl presenting with poor visual acuity, photophobia, and abnormal eye and head movements who was initially diagnosed with spasmus nutans. A remote history of presumed viral cardiomyopathy and further electroretinography testing raised suspicion for Alstr öm syndrome. She was diagnosed with a novel ALMS1 variant. A novel case of Horner syndrome as the presenting sign of craniosynostosis
We present a novel case of Horner syndrome as the presenting sign of craniosynostosis associated with elevated intracranial pressure. A 10-year-old boy presenting for strabismus follow-up was noted to have new-onset anisocoria, greater in the dark, and mild right upper eyelid ptosis. Apraclonidine testing was concerning for Horner syndrome. Neuroimaging demonstrated previously undiagnosed sagittal craniosynostosis with tortuous optic nerves and large cerebrospinal fluid spaces around both optic nerves. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

Bilateral tonic pupils secondary to anti-GD2 antibody therapy for neuroblastoma
We report the case of a 12-year-old girl with stage 4 neuroblastoma who developed tonic pupils secondary to immunotherapy with dinutuximab, an anti-GD2 antibody, based on the timeline provided by her mother with regard to onset of symptoms. The patient presented with difficulty reading and chronic dilated pupils bilaterally, according to her mother ’s observations over 6 months prior to presentation. Testing with dilute pilocarpine supported our presumption of tonic pupils. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

Acquired myelinated retinal nerve fiber layer in a  child with neurofibromatosis 1–related optic pathway glioma
Myelinated retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) is a rare structural anomaly that occurs from abnormal myelination extending anterior to the lamina cribrosa. Clinically, myelinated RNFL is characterized as a gray-white lesion with feathered, well-demarcated borders obscuring the retinal vasculature. Myelinated RNFL is typically congenital, benign, and asymptomatic. It is most commonly noted as an incidental finding on ophthalmic examination. However, cases of acquired myelinated RNFL have been reported. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

Designing custom three-dimensional printed eyeglasses for children with frontonasal abnormalities: addressing challenges in access and fit
Improving access to comfortable and well-fitting glasses for children with craniofacial differences may improve their visual outcomes. The purpose of this study was to describe challenges in spectacle fitting facing patients with frontonasal dysplasia and to report successful methods for creating custom 3D designed glasses. Additionally, the process of systematically collecting and analyzing spectacle-fitting challenges can inform future processes of automated design of 3D printed glasses and can be applied to other specific craniofacial syndromes. Peripheral retinal finding on fluorescein angiography in neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 2 (CLN2)
We describe isolated, mild, peripheral vasculitis with peripheral arteriolar dropout identified by fluorescein angiography in patients with a WCOSS grade of stage 2. We believe this vasculitis represents an early vasodegenerative phase of disease that leads to the vascular attenuation seen in later stages of the disease. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)
