Aberrant right subclavian artery (arteria lusoria) aneurysm with a Kommerell’s diverticulum
We report our experience with a 67-year old patient with an aberrant right subclavian aneurysm with Kommerell ’ s diverticulum, diagnosed by chance.

Venous thromboembolism, can we do better? Profile of venous thromboembolism risk and prophylaxis in a University Hospital in the State of São Paulo
Conclusions Rates of correctly-prescribed VTE prophylaxis are still lower than they should be. Ongoing education, measures to encourage bedside risk stratification, and improvements to the electronic prescription system could increase appropriate VTE prophylaxis rates. The profiles of angiology and vascular surgery academic leagues and their effectiveness in specialty education
Conclusions The angiology and vascular surgery academic leagues in the state of S ão Paulo all function in a similar manner, but the range of theoretical, practical and scientific activities they offer are not uniform. For the sample investigated, the academic leagues appear to be effective at teaching angiology and vascular surgery during undergraduate courses. (Source: Jornal Vascular Brasileiro)

Hybrid surgery in excision of a Shamblin II glomus tumor

Arteriovenous fistula after radial catheterization with cardiopulmonary repercussions
This article describes the case of an 86-year-old coronary disease patient who underwent cardiac catheterization via a left radial access. Around 16 months after the procedure, he presented with dyspnea, unrelated to effort, but associated with nocturnal hypoxia. There was a palpable thrill in the left wrist and he was diagnosed with a radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula in the left wrist. A duplex scan revealed an abnormal wave pattern and increased diastolic velocity compatible with arteriovenous fistula. The fistula was repaired surgically and the patient exhibited improvement in clinical and laboratory parameters after...

CHIVA to treat saphenous vein insufficiency in chronic venous disease: characteristics and results
Abstract There is considerable debate in the literature with relation to the best method to treat patients with chronic venous disease (CVD). CHIVA is an office-based treatment for varicose veins performed under local anesthesia. The aim of the technique is to lower transmural pressure in the superficial venous system and avoid destruction of veins. Recurrence of varicosities, nerve damage, bruising and suboptimal aesthetic results are common to all treatments for the disease. This paper evaluates and discusses the characteristics and results of the CHIVA technique. We conclude that CHIVA is a viable alternative to common...

Primary stenting for femoropopliteal peripheral arterial disease: analysis up to 24 months
Conclusions Results of primary patency were compatible with international studies, despite the more advanced stage of the vascular disease observed in our group. Occlusive disease and complex lesions were both associated with worse outcomes. (Source: Jornal Vascular Brasileiro)

Pulmonary sequestration and endovascular treatment: a case report
We report the case of a 29-year-old-woman presenting with recurrent pneumonia for 5 years. A CT scan of the chest revealed poor vascular formation in the lower region of the right lung. The pulmonary sequestration was treated by embolization of the anomalous branch. (Source: Jornal Vascular Brasileiro)

CHIVA to spare the small and great saphenous veins after wrong-site surgery on a normal saphenous vein: a case report
We report a case of CHIVA treatment of two saphenous veins to spare these veins. The patient previously had a normal great saphenous vein stripped in error in a wrong-site surgery, while two saphenous veins that did have reflux were not operated. The patient was symptomatic and we performed a CHIVA operation on the left great and right small saphenous veins. The postoperative period was uneventful and both aesthetic and clinical results were satisfactory. This case illustrates that saphenous-sparing procedures can play an important role in treatment of chronic venous insufficiency. Additionally, most safe surgery protocols...

Rare variation of the right internal jugular vein: a case study
This study reports on a rare variation of the right internal jugular vein (IJV) identified during routine anatomic dissection of a male cadaver. The right IJV had a tributary located parallel and medially to the IJV itself. This branch of the IJV emerged between the transverse processes of the 3rd and 4th cervical vertebrae and drained into the junction between the right internal jugular and brachiocephalic veins. The present study described a rare branch of the right IJV, which is important knowledge for surgeons, in order to prevent accidental injury and bleeding during surgical procedures.Resumo O presente estudo demon...

Inferior gluteal artery pseudoaneurysm after fall from a bicycle: case report
We present a case of pseudoaneurysm of the right inferior gluteal artery after a bicycle fall, presenting with a large hematoma in the gluteal region, observed during clinical examination, and significantly reduced hemoglobin. CT angiography revealed a large hematoma, with contrast extravasation and pseudoaneurysm formation. Angiography revealed that the origin of the lesion was in the right inferior gluteal artery. This artery was embolized with coils. After the procedure, the patient was referred to an intensive care unit, from where he was later transferred to a different hospital, with bleeding controlled. Endovascular...

Endovascular management of tracheo-innominate artery fistula: a case report and literature review
We describe the case of a 14-year-old female patient who had been tracheostomized at the age of eight because of head trauma. She later developed subglottic stenosis requiring dilation sessions for six years. During the fifth year of these sessions, she presented repetitive hemoptysis, initially treated by surgery to implant an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene graft. One year later, she had an intense hemorrhage, which was controlled using endovascular techniques followed by definitive surgery, performed electively. The patient was followed up for six months, without complications. (Source: Jornal Vascular Brasileiro)
