Sarcoidosis simulating metastasis in patient with Merkel cell carcinoma
This article presents the case of a male patient, in the seventh decade of life, which had a prior MCC diagnosis and was subsequently diagnosed with sarcoidosis, which radiologically simulated lung and mediastinum metastasis. The association between MCC and sarcoidosis is infrequent and rarely described in literature, found in only two case reports.O carcinoma de células de Merkel (CCM) é um tumor neuroendócrino de pele, raro e agressivo, cuja etiologia permanece pouco compreendida. Disfunção do sistema imune é apontada como um possível fator causal, tanto para o CCM quanto ...

Inclusion-body myositis: a difficult diagnosis?
We report a typical case of IBM, in which diagnosis was possible only after three muscle biopsies. The challenges to confirm histological diagnosis and the caution to avoid repeating tests are discussed. A biópsia muscula...

Squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue: clinical and morphological analysis of 57 cases and correlation with prognosis
Conclusion: TNM clinical staging and HGM, evaluated in association, may be useful to estimate the prognosis of TSCC.

Comparative analysis of Gram’s method and PAS for the identification of Candida spp. samples from the oral mucosa
Conclusion: Gram was an adequate method; however more intensive professional training would be necessary to identify the fungus morphological structures. Although Pap test is the most common method of routine cytopathologic examination, for candidiasis diagnosis PAS staining is also recommended. Thus, it is suggested that candidiasis diagnosis should be accomplished by clinical evaluation in association with cytopathological analysis based on the identification of hyphae and/or pseudohyphae. Mucins and NCAM (CD56) in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinogenesis
Introduction: Cholangiocarcinoma is the second most common malignant neoplasm of the hepatobiliary system. During cholangiocarcinogenesis phenotypic changes occur in the ductal epithelium, including the expression of mucins (MUC). However, the evaluating studies of the expression of mucins in the different stages of cholangiocarcinogenesis are scarce. CD56 has also contributed in differentiating benign ductal proliferation and cholangiocarcinoma; however, its expression has not been evaluated in dysplastic epithelium of the bile duct yet.
