Adenocarcinoma of the female urethra: a case report
ABSTRACT The urethral adenocarcinoma is a rare malignant tumor that affects predominantly women. Its incidence is higher after the age of 50 in this group. The knowledge about this disease is limited due to its low frequency and is mainly based on case reports. Although rarely presenting distant metastasis, the clinical consequences of treating this condition may bring an important negative impact on patient's quality of life. This is mainly due to mutilating surgery and the need to use permanent urinary catheter. It is presented a case report of a patient with urethral adenocarcinoma and its therapeutic management.RESUMO ...

Invasive bladder urothelial carcinoma, plasmacytoid variant: case report
We report a case of a 79 years old male, subjected to transurethral resection of bladder tumor, which histological examination revealed a pT1 high-grade urothelial carcinoma. Subsequently, he underwent radical cystoprostatectomy, which showed urothelial carcinoma with lack of cohesion, plasmacytoid variant, positive for citokeratin 7 (CK7), citokeratin 20 (CK20) and trans-acting T-cell-specific transcription factor (GATA-3), and negative for E-cadherin and CD138. It is important to recognize the plasmacytoid variant of the invasive urothelial carcinoma, since it avoids a potential misdiagnosis of metastatic cancer.RESUMO C...

Cervical cancer screening: from Pap smear to future strategies
ABSTRACT Previously, the screening for detection of cervical cancer was performed by simple cervicovaginal sample collected by the physician whenever the patient attended the medical consultation, and soon it was established as the annual"Pap smear". Since then, an elementary test has evolved into a complex process with multiple algorithms for the identification of invasive disease. The detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) has become part of the new screening recommendations, resulting in major changes in the guidelines. This review intends to emphasize the most important topics that are part of cervical cance...

ABSTRACT The proliferating trichilemmal tumor is a lesion with trichilemmal differentiation, more common occurring among elderly women; it affects the scalp with sizes ranging from 2-10 cm. Microscopically, it is solid-cystic, well-defined, affecting the dermis and the subcutaneous cellular tissue. It presents trichilemmal and squamous keratinization. Pleomorphism may be present. Ghosts, apocrine and spindle cells can be observed. The differential diagnosis should be performed with malignant trichilemmal tumor and squamous cell carcinoma.
