ABSTRACT Cytology is used as detection and screening method of malignant and pre-malignant lesions showing their potential since the original works of Papanicolaou. The cytological smears are usually stained with the Pap staining, although this method is time consuming and requires different reagents. The aim of this study is to assess the quality of an original Blue staining in exfoliative smears comparing it with the standard Papanicolaou staining. ABSTRACT The erythrogram is one of the components of the blood count that includes red blood cell (RBC) quantification and evaluation. Assessment of the pre-analytical phase of a clinical analyses laboratory
Conclusion: The evaluation of the QI allowed organizing the improvements that should be prioritized in the laboratory. The Sigma metric was useful for assessing the QIs considered important to the laboratory, for which there are no published specifications. Oxidative, inflammatory and cardiometabolic biomarkers of clinical relevance in patients with metabolic syndrome
Conclusion: The combination of IL-6, ultra-sensitive C-reactive protein (us-CRP), ADA, DPP-IV and the increase of TBARS, with the reduction of vitamin C, SH groups and adiponectin, promote inflammation and compromise insulin sensitivity, thus presenting an active role in the pathogenesis of MetS. Evaluation of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (VITEK-MS) compared to the ANC card (VITEK 2) for the identification of clinically significant anaerobes
Conclusion: Both methodologies showed an ex cellent performance for the identification of the strains tested with great differences in relation to cost-benefit. MALDI-TOF MS allowed 35 additional identifications and a saving of BRL$ 7,786 with the release of culture positive result five days ahead of the ANC (VITEK 2). Palisaded encapsulated neuroma clinically mimicking a mucocele: report of a case
We report the case of a 21-year-old female patient with the chief complaint of a small tumor on the lower left lip. Intraoral examination revealed a two-month evolution nodular lesion on the left labial mucosa, of resilient consistency and asymptomatic. A history of prior trauma was reported by the patient. A provisional diagnosis of mucocele was established, and an excisional biopsy was performed. The diagnosis was palisaded encapsulated neuroma (PEN).
