eConsults' Impact on Care Access and Wait Times in Rheumatology
Conclusions
Implementation of eConsults for rheumatology was associated with reduced wait times for rheumatology appointments and supported primary care providers in the triage and workup for a substantial portion of patients. (Source: JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology)

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome as Risk Factors for Acute Coronary Syndrome in Young Patients: Analysis of the National Inpatient Sample
Conclusions
In the younger population, SLE and APLS were strongly associated with ACS hospitalizations in addition to the traditional CV risk factors. In the older age group, traditional CV risk factors dominated and diluted the effect of SLE and APLS. (Source: JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology)

Suicide Risk in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients is Associated With Suboptimal Vitamin D Levels
Background/Objective
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients might experience anxiety and depressive symptoms. Deficient vitamin D levels may be a trigger for these conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of depression, anxiety symptoms, and suicidal risk or ideation in patients with RA associated with vitamin D serum levels.
Methods
In this cross-sectional study, we recruited RA patients older than 18 years, classified into 3 groups according to serum vitamin D levels: sufficient, ≥30 ng/mL; insufficient, 20–29 ng/mL; and deficient, (Source: JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology)

Factors Associated With Participation in Clinical Trials Among Patients With Lupus
Background/Objective
Participation rates for clinical trials, including lupus trials, in the United States are low, but are even lower for underrepresented minorities. The impact of underrepresentation in trials can be far-reaching and is problematic because female subjects of color with lupus experience greater morbidity and mortality. As such, the overarching goal of this study was to characterize the factors that influence participation in lupus clinical trials.
Methods
The Lupus and Allied Diseases Association, the Lupus Foundation of America, and the Lupus Research Alliance collected data for their external...

Factors Associated With Diagnostic Delay of Axial Spondyloarthritis in Colombian Patients
Conclusions
Factors associated with a longer diagnostic delay were previous diagnosis of lumbar degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia. Additional studies are needed so that the reasons for diagnostic delay are understood and early diagnosis and management of axSpA are enabled. (Source: JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology)

Clinical Specialty Setting as Determinant of Management of Psoriatic Arthritis: A Cross-Sectional Brazilian Study
Conclusions
In Brazil, PsA disease burden and disease activity were influenced by clinical specialty. Irrespective of setting, patients experienced a delay in being diagnosed with PsA, reinforcing the need for collaborative management of PsA by rheumatologists and dermatologists for better outcomes in these patients. Infection in Hospitalized Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Proposal of an Algorithm for Diagnosis
Conclusions
The combined use of clinical and laboratory markers presented superior accuracy than their isolated use, suggesting a great potential for the application of the algorithm in clinical practice. (Source: JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology)

Controversies in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Are We Treating Our Patients Adequately?
The objectives of its management are to make a timely diagnosis and to initiate treatment as promptly as possible so organ damage can be avoided while at the same time exposure to potentially toxic drugs is minimized so that its overall course and outcome improve. In reviewing the current literature, it became quite clear that there are specific topics in which controversies do exist. These include how to treat patients with incomplete lupus erythematosus, the real possibility of abandoning altogether the use of oral glucocorticoids, and the pros and cons of the use of cyclophosphamide and mycophenolate mofetil for the ind...

Comparison of Renal Responses Between Continuous Mycophenolate Mofetil and Conversion from Mycophenolate Mofetil to Enteric-Coated Mycophenolate Sodium in Lupus Nephritis
Conclusion
Switching to EC-MPS demonstrated a similar short-term renal response to continuous MMF treatment in LN patients. Prospective randomized trials are required to verify our findings. (Source: JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology)
