Relationship between vitreoretinal lymphoma and the site of lymphoma development in the central nervous system
ConclusionOver 60% of the VRL patients had CNS lesions. CNS involvement was not associated with the optic pathway or visual cortex, suggesting that clinicians should carefully examine CNS lesions occurring in both forebrain- and hindbrain-originating tissues during a patient ’s clinical course. Moreover, the CNS lymphomas that manifest as VRL show multifocal tumor development. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Imbalanced choroidal circulation in eyes with asymmetric dilated vortex vein
ConclusionIn eyes with ADVV, the blood flow velocity in the ADVV veins was lower than in the non-ADVV veins, suggesting anatomical congestion of ADVV. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Peripheral refraction in Japanese schoolchildren with low to moderate myopia
ConclusionsThe profile of peripheral refraction was similar to that reported in children with moderate to high myopia in other East Asian countries. In this cohort, we did not find evidence supporting a hypothesis that greater myopia and longer axial length are associated with a greater peripheral hyperopic shift of the refraction. Retinal displacement and intraretinal structural changes after idiopathic macular hole surgery
ConclusionInternal limiting membrane peeling for macular hole enhances retinal displacement toward the optic disc, whose distances correlate with the changes in inner nuclear layer thickness. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Significant correlations between focal photopic negative response and focal visual sensitivity and ganglion cell complex thickness in glaucomatous eyes
ConclusionsThe significant correlations between the focal PhNR amplitudes, the focal visual sensitivities and the GCC thickness indicate that these may be good biomarkers to track the changes in the physiology and anatomy of the macular area in glaucomatous eyes. Comparison of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty and corneal cross-linking in patients with advanced keratoconus
ConclusionsCompared to CXL, DALK leads to larger reductions in Kmax and better improvement in visual acuity in advanced keratoconus. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

A randomized multicenter clinical evaluation of sequential application of 0.3% and 0.15% hyaluronic acid for treatment of dry eye
ConclusionsSequential application of 0.3% and 0.15% HA improved symptoms/signs in moderate to severe DED patients. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Corneal endothelial cell damage after scleral fixation of intraocular lens surgery
ConclusionsECD loss was related to IOL removal or phacoemulsification rather than SFIOL surgery. SFIOL using the existing IOL should be considered preferential in eyes with low ECD and dislocated IOL. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Acquired night blindness due to rod dysfunction after long-term hemodialysis
DiscussionLong-term hemodialysis can be associated with the night blindness that may be caused by vitamin A deficiency, even though the plasma concentration of vitamin A in these patients was within the normal range. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Comparison of combination therapy of prednisolone and cyclosporine with corticosteroid pulse therapy in Vogt –Koyanagi–Harada disease
ConclusionsCombination therapy was noninferior to corticosteroid therapy with respect to recurrence/worsening risk. Notably, the recurrence/worsening risk, sunset glow fundus grade, and cataract rate were lower in the combination group than in the corticosteroid group. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Abnormal biorbital angle in children with infantile exotropia
ConclusionsChildren with infantile exotropia have a larger biorbital angle. This anatomical abnormality may be an associate factor of infantile exotropia. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Higher prevalence of diabetic retinopathy among female Chinese diabetic patients with metabolic syndrome
ConclusionIn this study cohort, female patients with MetS had a higher prevalence of DR. Patients tended to have thinner central retinal arterioles as the number of MetS components increased. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Clinical findings of acute acquired comitant esotropia in young patients
ConclusionAACE was most commonly found in the JUNIOR group, especially those aged 15 –16 years. AACE may encompass multiple diseases; using common diagnostic criteria and asking common questions regarding digital device usage is necessary to clarify the influence of digital device usage, and a multicenter prospective study is recommended.
