Psychedelic Drugs Might Support Sexual Well-Being, Studies Find
People who used psychedelic drugs tended to report better sex and intimacy after their experience, a recent pair of studies published in Scientific Reports found. The first study involved 261 participants who used psychedelics recreationally. The second was a randomized trial that evaluated sexual functioning in 59 people with depression after being treated with psilocybin or a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Cancer Risk Decreased 10 Years After Quitting Smoking
People who previously smoked had a lower risk of all types of cancer 10 years after quitting compared with those who currently smoked, according to data from more than 2.9 million adults in Korea. High Lipoprotein(a) May Increase CVD Risk Even Without Inflammation
Previous research has tied high levels of lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]), a protein that carries cholesterol through the blood, to increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Studies to Test How Well PREVENT Predicts Heart Disease in Diverse Groups
Researchers have begun studying how accurately a new tool, known as the Predicting Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Events (PREVENT) calculator, estimates risk in people from different racial and ethnic backgrounds as well as from a range of ages, the American Heart Association announced. Three research teams will evaluate the new scores using larger databases and will assess PREVENT ’s fairness and cost-effectiveness compared with the Pooled Cohort Equations (PCEs). Tirzepatide Lowered Blood Pressure in People With Obesity
People with obesity who received tirzepatide —a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist—had lower blood pressure after 9 months compared with those who received a placebo, a study published in Hypertension found.
