The Scleroderma Tango: Unraveling the Delicate Dance of Diastolic Dysfunction and Interstitial Lung Disease
J Rheumatol. 2024 Mar 1:jrheum.2024-0154. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2024-0154. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this issue of The Journal of Rheumatology, Fairley and colleagues investigated the effects of concomitant left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in a small cohort of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc)-associated interstitial lung disease (ILD) derived from the larger Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study.1 Consistent with prior reports, the authors found that patients with SSc-ILD with LVDD experienced dyspnea and reduced survival. In addition, these patients were older, had longer SSc disease duration exceedi...

Factors Associated with an Electronic Health Record-Based Definition of Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 in Patients with Systemic Autoimmune Rheumatic Disease
CONCLUSION: Among patients with rheumatic diseases, following their first COVID-19 infection, using an EHR-based definition, we found a decreased risk of PASC over calendar time. Aside from glucocorticoids, no specific immunomodulatory medications were associated with increased risk, and risk factors were otherwise similar to those seen in the general population.PMID:38428964 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1092 (Source: J Rheumatol)

Psychometric properties of patient global assessment in Psoriatic Arthritis: a systematic literature review
CONCLUSION: PtGA is a valid and responsive tool in PsA. Correlations were higher with PROs and weaker with DA composite indices and PhGA. PhGA was usually scored lower than PtGA. A standardized formulation of PtGA would be useful.PMID:38359935 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0722 (Source: J Rheumatol)

Seasonal Effects on Relapse of Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody-Associated Vasculitis: A Retrospective Multicenter Cohort Study in Japan (J-CANVAS)
J Rheumatol. 2024 Feb 15:jrheum.2023-1079. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2023-1079. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAntineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a type of systemic vasculitis characterized by autoantibody development against the neutrophil proteins leukocyte proteinase 3 (PR3)-ANCA and myeloperoxidase (MPO)-ANCA. We previously reported that newly developed AAV in Japan was influenced by seasonal variations and that AAV was less frequently observed in autumn.1.PMID:38359936 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1079 (Source: J Rheumatol)

Erosions on T1-weighted MRI vs Radiography of Sacroiliac Joints in Recent-onset Axial SpA: 2-year Data (EMBARK Trial and DESIR Cohort)
CONCLUSION: In recent-onset axSpA, SIJ erosions and erosion change were observed more frequently on MRI than radiography. The significance of interval improvement of MRI erosions warrants further research.PMID:38359938 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0906 (Source: J Rheumatol)

Understanding the employment landscape in people with systemic sclerosis
CONCLUSION: Health factors alone do not differentiate those who are employed and those who gave up employment. This study lays the groundwork for where SSc-specific efforts in workplace policies/practices should be directed, especially workplace support.PMID:38359939 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0975 (Source: J Rheumatol)

Right Care, Right Time, Right Level: With Evidence
J Rheumatol. 2024 Feb 15:jrheum.2023-1037. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2023-1037. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs the Chief Medical Officer for Highmark Inc. and having been on the health insurance side of medicine since 2008 while actively practicing rural family medicine in Kentucky, I have seen the effect chronic diseases can have on healthcare delivery. From a patient perspective, pain and reduced ability to ambulate cause a reduced quality of life (QOL), which is never acceptable.PMID:38359940 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1037 (Source: J Rheumatol)

Paget Disease as a Rare Mimicker of Giant Cell Arteritis
J Rheumatol. 2024 Feb 15:jrheum.2023-1160. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2023-1160. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPaget disease (PD) is a skeletal disorder that is characterized by excessive osteoclast activity and subsequent increased osteoblast activity that leads to disorganized bone formation. Here, we report a case of a patient whose symptoms initially raised concern for giant cell arteritis (GCA), but further clinical examination ultimately led to an alternative diagnosis.PMID:38359942 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-1160 (Source: J Rheumatol)

Factors Associated With Treatment Pathways in Early Axial Spondyloarthritis: A Multistate Analysis of the 10-Year Follow-Up of the DESIR Cohort
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this was the first study using a multistate model to easily represent different treatment states, detailing the transitions across them and their associated factors. Different time profiles for the management of patients with axSpA were identified, including in those abstaining from treatment up to a significant proportion of patients treated with csDMARDs.PMID:38359943 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0933 (Source: J Rheumatol)
