Transradial Versus Transfemoral Access for Bifurcation Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Using Second-Generation Drug-Eluting Stent
CONCLUSION: The findings suggested that TRA may be safer than TFA for bifurcation PCI using second-generation DESs. Despite differences in treatment strategy, TRA was associated with similar long-term clinical outcomes as those of TFA. Therefore, TRA might be the preferred access for bifurcation PCI using second-generation DES.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03068494.PMID:38501187 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e111 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

Opioid Prescription and Long-Term Survival Outcomes in Adults: A Nationwide Cohort Study in Korea
CONCLUSION: Both short and long-term opioid prescriptions were associated with increased long-term mortality among the Korean adult population.PMID:38469961 | PMC:PMC10927394 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e82 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

Spatiotemporal Analysis of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Incidence and Survival Outcomes in Korea (2009-2021)
CONCLUSION: This study emphasized the significance of small-area analyses in identifying high-risk regions and populations using spatiotemporal analyses. These findings have implications for public health planning efforts to alleviate the burden of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Korea.PMID:38469962 | PMC:PMC10927389 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e86 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

Pre-Sepsis Length of Hospital Stay and Mortality: A Nationwide Multicenter Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Extended LOS before developing sepsis is associated with higher in-hospital mortality. More careful management is required when sepsis occurs in patients hospitalized for ≥ 5 days.PMID:38469963 | PMC:PMC10927387 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e87 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

Risk of Cerebral Aneurysm Rupture After Liver Transplantation: Development and Validation of a Hemorrhagic Stroke Scoring Model
CONCLUSION: The incidence of UIA and SAH was very low in LT patients. A poor admission mental status, diagnosis of UIA, serum ammonia levels, and MELD scores were significantly associated with the risk of HS within one year after LT. Our scoring system showed a good discrimination to predict the HS in LT patients.PMID:38469964 | PMC:PMC10927392 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e88 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

Dark Data in Real-World Evidence: Challenges, Implications, and the Imperative of Data Literacy in Medical Research
In this study, we explore the impact of extrinsic factors on RWE outcomes, focusing on "dark data," which refers to data collected but not used or excluded from the analyses. Dark data can arise in many ways during research process, from selecting study samples to data collection and analysis. However, even unused or unanalyzed dark data hold potential insights, providing a comprehensive view of clinical contexts. Extrinsic factors lead to divergent RWE outcomes that could differ from RCTs beyond statistical correction's scope. Two main types of dark data exist: "known-unknown" and "unknown-unknown." The distinction betwee...

Modest Effects of Neurofeedback-Assisted Meditation Using a Wearable Device on Stress Reduction: A Randomized, Double-Blind, and Controlled Study
CONCLUSION: Neurofeedback-assisted meditation using a wearable device can help improve subjective stress reduction compared with non-assisted meditation. These results support neurofeedback as an effective adjunct to meditation for relieving stress.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinical Research Information Service Identifier: KCT0007413.PMID:38469966 | PMC:PMC10927393 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e94 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

Trends in Incidence and Drug Prescriptions for Croup in Children Under 5 Years of Age: A 2002-2019 Population-Based Study
CONCLUSION: Over the past two decades, croup incidence has risen, accompanied by increased epinephrine use and decreased antibiotic prescriptions. Longer hospitalization and higher medication use were mainly observed in primary care facilities.PMID:38469967 | PMC:PMC10927388 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e95 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)
