Prevalence and clinical features of carotid artery web in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, CaW is a rare finding among Asian patients with carotid artery disease who undergo for AIS. It is more prevalent in younger patients with a limited number of vascular risk factors.PMID:38438298 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.02.007 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

Computed tomography-based gastric volumetry for morbid obesity to assess weight loss and fatty liver change
CONCLUSION: %RGV and %RGL were determined to be factors affecting LSG outcomes. LSG engendered significantly more BW loss when %RGV was >75.3% and resulted in fatty liver disease improvement when %RGV was >56.4%.PMID:38433034 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.02.018 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

High incidence of cerebrovascular lesions on magnetic resonance imaging in pediatric COVID-19 during omicron outbreak - A retrospective case series
CONCLUSION: A high proportion of vascular abnormalities was observed in pediatric patients with neurological involvements, suggesting that vascular involvement is an important mechanism of neurological manifestations in omicron variant infection.PMID:38431481 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.02.015 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

Taiwan ocular inflammation society consensus recommendations for the management of juvenile idiopathic arthritis-associated uveitis
We presented the development of a consensus guideline for managing juvenile idiopathic arthritis-associated uveitis (JIAU) in Taiwan, considering regional differences in manifestation and epidemiology. The Taiwan Ocular Inflammation Society (TOIS) committee formulated this guideline using a modified Delphi approach with two panel meetings. Recommendations were based on a comprehensive evidence-based literature review and expert clinical experiences, and were graded according to the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine's "Levels of Evidence" guideline (March 2009). The TOIS consensus guideline consists of 10 recommenda...

Severity of tongue base collapse in various body positions in patients with obstructive sleep apnea: A trajectory analysis
CONCLUSION: In patients with obstructive sleep apnea, tongue strength may vary depending on body position. Our results should be interpreted with caution because of the limited sample size. Future studies should investigate the effect of oropharyngeal rehabilitation on tongue strength and collapse severity.PMID:38423924 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.01.033 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

Late creation of vascular access increased post-hemodialysis mortality, hospitalization, and health-care expenditure: A population-based cohort study in Taiwan
CONCLUSIONS: Late VA creation for HD can increase all-cause mortality, hospitalization, and health-care costs within 2 years after HD initiation. Early preparation of VA has the potential to reduce post-HD mortality and healthcare expenses for the ESKD patients.PMID:38423926 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.02.009 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)
