ESDM intervention in severe preschool autism: an Italian Case report, psychological and social medicine reflections
Conclusions: Research has shown the usefulness of intervening in this area with an early assessment and/or diagnosis and immediate intervention; however, public health services are not always able to maintain this pace. Our contribution therefore shows on the one hand the evidence of the improvements achieved by the child despite the low intensity of the treatment, and on the other hand, demonstrates the total versatility and adaptability of the Denver Model to the Italian context. In our conclusions, there are also some reflections on the tools used to measure adaptive behavior which seem to have a number of limitations a...

New and old criteria for diagnosing celiac disease: do they really differ? A retrospective observational study
ConclusionsAn increased prevalence of IDDM, thyroiditis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) in the first group would show that the “biopsy sparing” approach could expose patients to a greater length of disease activity that might be responsible for the onset of such comorbidities. Further studies should be carried out on more numerous samples of patients in order to confirm or not these data. (Source: Italian Journal of Pediatrics)

Critical period of oxygen supplementation and invasive ventilation: implications for severe retinopathy of prematurity
ConclusionsAmount of oxygen supplementation and/or invasive ventilation during the first 7 weeks of life or up to 31 weeks PMA was associated with development of severe ROP. This period might be candidate timing for strict oxygen supplementation strategies in preterm infants, while concerns of mortality with low oxygen supplementation should be further explored. Clinical and economic burden of respiratory syncytial virus in children aged 0 –5 years in Italy
ConclusionsThese findings derived from the real clinical practice in Italy confirmed that RSV has an important epidemiological, clinical, and economic burden among children aged 0 –5 years. While the complex management of at-risk infants was confirmed, our data also highlighted the significant impact of RSV infection in infants born at term or otherwise healthy, demonstrating that all infants need protection against RSV disease, reducing then the risk of medium and long-ter m complications, such as wheezing and asthma. An epidemiological investigation of high-risk infants for Respiratory Syncytial Virus infections: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsThe assessment of the study clinical outcomes highlighted that, the demographic and clinical characteristics at birth of the study cohorts influence their level of vulnerability to RSV and URA infections. As such, continuous monitoring of these populations is necessary in order to ensure a timely organization of health care system able to respond to their needs in the future. The specialized pediatric palliative care service in Italy: how is it working? Results of the nationwide PalliPed study
ConclusionsThe results obtained show how training, information, and research interventions are still necessary for the reorganization of the available resources and definition of proper strategies to respond dynamically to the new emerging needs of these populations. At the same time, our study represents a first step in defining a national registry of PPC models, useful for monitoring evolutions, and critical issues and planning any new or corrective strategy.
