Report and follow-up on two new patients with congenital mesoblastic nephroma

Report and follow-up on two new patients with congenital mesoblastic nephroma
ConclusionsThe finding of a fetal abdominal mass should prompt suspicion of CMN, especially if it is associated with polyhydramnios; it should also alert obstetricians and neonatologists to the risk of preterm delivery. Although being a usually benign condition, CMN may be associated with neonatal systemic-metabolic or postoperative complications. High-level surgical expertise, careful neonatological intensive care and histopathological/cytogenetic-molecular definition are the cornerstones for the optimal management of patients. This should also include an individualized follow-up, oriented to the early detection of any po...

Bronchiolitis guidelines: what about the Italian situation in a primary care setting?
AbstractAcute viral bronchiolitis is the most common cause of hospitalization in children under 12 months of age. The variable clinical presentation and the potential for sudden deterioration of the clinical conditions require a close monitoring by healthcare professionals. In Italy, first access care for children is provided by primary care physicians (PCPs) who often must face to a heterogeneous disease presentation that, in some cases, make the management of patient with bronchiolitis challenging. Consequently, Italian studies report poor adherence to national and international guidelines processed to guide the clinician...

Sudden onset headaches in paediatric emergency departments: diagnosis and management
AbstractHeadache is one of the most common pain syndromes in the paediatric population. Headaches are classified as primary (migraine, tension-type headaches, trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia and other primary headaches) or secondary (e.g. post-traumatic). Non-febrile, non-traumatic headaches represent 1% of all paediatric emergency departments (PED) visits. Many patients present with an acute, moderate to severe pain, sometimes with a sudden onset. Sudden onset headache can be the main symptom of life-threatening neurological conditions as well as a sign of primary headaches such as thunderclap or stabbing headaches. This...

Reduction in the duration of postoperative fever following NUSS surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic
ConclusionThe prevalence of postoperative fever within 72  h of surgery and the length of hospital stay for patients with PE undergoing NUSS surgery were both decreased in Group 2021. We propose that the above phenomenon may be related to increased used of personal protection equipment (such as surgical masks and filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs)) by physicians, nurses, and the patients themselves. Exploring changes in children ’s well-being due to COVID-19 restrictions: the Italian EpaS-ISS study
ConclusionsAccording to parents ' perception, changes in daily routine during COVID-19 negatively affected children ’s well-being. Peripheral blood microR-146a and microR-29c expression in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia and its clinical value
ConclusionSerum microR-29c and microR-146a were underexpressed in children withMycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia, and diagnostic accuracy was significantly improved with combined microR-29c and microR-146a detection. Therefore, both microR-29c and microR-146a levels can be used as biomarkers for the diagnosis ofMycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia. (Source: Italian Journal of Pediatrics)

Influenza viruses circulation in a tertiary care children hospital in Rome: a comparison between 2022 and the previous 5 years
ConclusionsWhen compared with pre SARS-CoV-2 pandemic years, our data show a significant increase in Influenza cases during weeks 18 –41/2022 and reveal an unexpected summer circulation of these viruses: just weeks 26–30 showed to be influenza virus free. A national year-round Flu surveillance could be useful to understand if changing in influenza epidemiology is transitional or likely to persist in the following years.
