Pulmonary hypertension in newly diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap syndrome patients attending a tertiary care centre —a cross-sectional analysis
ConclusionThis study confirms that OSA patients with modest daytime level of hypoxemia and mild-moderate chronic airflow limitation have a high prevalence of PH. Chronic airway obstruction may be asymptomatic in some subjects and this stresses the necessity of pulmonary function test in OSA. (Source: Irish Journal of Medical Science)

Factors associated with increased risk of postoperative blood transfusion in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty at an Irish University Hospital
ConclusionPreoperative anaemia was common in an Irish orthopaedic population undergoing THA. Preoperative anaemia predisposes patients to the greatest increased risk of postoperative blood transfusions. The other factors associated with the need for postoperative transfusion were ASA grade 3 or more and age greater than 65  years. Patients who received postoperative blood transfusions had a significantly increased length of hospital stay. (Source: Irish Journal of Medical Science)

The effectiveness of aerobic exercise and neck exercises in pediatric migraine treatment: a randomized controlled single-blind study
ConclusionsAerobic and neck exercises are effective in reducing the symptoms of pediatric migraine. Aerobic exercise may be particularly beneficial for reducing the attack frequency. These findings contribute to the limited data on exercise interventions for pediatric migraineurs and highlight the importance of tailored exercise programs for managing this condition. Future studies should consider more extensive exercise modalities and include diverse patient cohorts.Trial registrationClinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT0606875. (Source: Irish Journal of Medical Science)

The effect of simultaneous administration of occipital nerve block and cervical myofascial trigger point injection (MTrPI) on headache parameters in chronic migraine patients
ConclusionThe combination of repeated MTrPIs and ONB proves more effective than ONB alone in managing patients with CM and cervical MTrP. In patients with CM, performing TrPs examination and adding treatments for this may contribute to the treatment. In cases where patients endure prolonged episodes of headache associated with chronic migraine, the inclusion of trigger point injections alongside peripheral nerve blocks may offer enhanced therapeutic benefits. Evaluating online patient education materials for liver cirrhosis
ConclusionOnline patient education materials for cirrhosis in the US are equally accessible, but readability and understandability are too complex. Websites are of greater quality, accuracy, and comprehensiveness than YouTube videos, which are often narrowly focused and targeted at the medical community rather than patients. Further efforts should be made to improve online patient education and expand content across platforms. (Source: Irish Journal of Medical Science)

Can you name that tablet? A cross-sectional study on recognition of common urology medications
ConclusionPatients often do not reliably know their own medications other than to describe them or show an unpackaged tablet. Prescribing safety is paramount to ensuring patient safety and reducing the risk of adverse drug reactions. This study shows that even experienced clinicians do not recognise the medications they regularly prescribe, and decisions should not be made without accurate medication reconciliation.
