Evaluation of the Crocin effect on the contrast induced nephropathy following coronary angiography or angioplasty: A randomized controlled trial
This study was designed and conducted to evaluate crocin’s efficacy in prevention of contrast induced nephropathy in CKD patients undergoing coronary angiography/angioplasty. In this randomized clinical trial, a total of one hundred and ten eligible CKD stage3 patients requiring contrast agent administration for coronary angiography/angioplasty were enrolled and randomly assigned to either crocin (n=57) or control group (n= 53). Patients in both groups received standard hydration therapy while in crocin group, they also were orally administered three consecutive oral doses of 30 mg crocin tablets from one day bef...

Investigating the changes in cream properties following topical application and their influence on the product efficiency
Topical products are not stable following application to the skin due to the evaporation of volatile components. Such changes have been demonstrated in liquid emulsions, but there is almost no study available for creams in this respect. The aim of the present investigation is to evaluate the changes in cream properties following topical application and their influence on the product efficiency. A method has also been designed and validated to mimic cream application to the skin. To perform this investigation, five different creams were prepared and alterations of type of creams, size of droplets of the dispersed phase, occ...

National Research Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (NRITLD) protocol for the treatment of patients with COVID-19
More than a year after the onset of the coronavirus disease pandemic in 2019, the disease remains a major global health issue. During this time, health organizations around the world have tried to provide integrated treatment guidelines to control COVID-19 at different levels. However, due to the novel nature of the disease and the emergence of new variants, updating medical information and drug prescribing guidelines by medical teams should be given special attention. This version is an updated instruction of the National Research Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (NRITLD) in collaboration with a group of special...

Determining The Levels of Acrylamide in Some Traditional Foods Unique to Turkey and Risk Assessment
In this study, exposure risk assessment was made by determining the acrylamide levels of some traditional foods, which are frequently consumed by the Turkish society and registered geographical indication. For this purpose, acrylamide levels of 20 traditional foods (7 meat products, 3 loaves of bread, 3 bagels (simit), and 7 desserts) obtained from different bakeries, patisseries, and restaurants were determined by LC-MS/MS. Acrylamide levels were determined between 12.7-299μg/kg in meat products, 11.8-69.3μg/kg in bread, 11.8-179μg/kg in bagels, 11.7-85.0μg/kg in baked desserts, and 32.3-527&am...

Anti-inflammatory properties of the genus Symphytum L.: A review
The Symphytum genus has been mainly used in traditional medicine, containing its anti-inflammatory activity. Symphytum spp.’s active components, such as allantoin, polyphenols, flavonoids, and alkaloids, can act on several intention in the signaling pathway, constrain pro-inflammatory enzymes, reduced the construction of inflammatory chemokine’s and cytokines, and decrease oxidative stress, which afterward suppresses inflammation procedures. Preclinical and clinical trials have reported the prevailing anti-inflammatory effect of several Symphytum species. This review presents an overview of the anti-inf...

The effect of monitoring system on risk assessment of aflatoxins in Iran's pistachio nuts exported to the E.U. during 2012-2018
Pistachio has high nutritional value and popularity. The susceptibility of pistachio to aflatoxin contamination caused establishing a monitoring system introduced and implemented by the Ministry of Health in Iran to ensure consumers' access to safe and hygienic pistachios. In this research, aflatoxin contamination level in all consignments (7298) exporting to E.U. was examined using HPLC with fluorescence detection after immunoaffinity column clean up from Nov 2012 to Oct 2018. The average recoveries ranged 78.6%–97.6%, with a relative standard deviation for reproducibility below 8.5% and expanded uncertainty of ...

Effectiveness of Fluconazole for Suppressive Maintenance Therapy in Patients with RVVC: a Randomized Placebo-Controlled Study
Recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC) is seen in 5% of women with Candida vaginitis. Use of fluconazole as prophylactic treatment has been suggested for RVVC. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of fluconazole suppressive therapy in RVVC patients, as a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind prophylactic study. Among the 330 women with acute symptomatic vulvovaginal candidiasis referred to Mirza-kouchak Khan gynecology hospital, 64 eligible subjects with RVVC were enrolled. Then, all of them were treated with fluconazole (150 mg orally every 3 days, for three doses). This was followed by micr...

Immunomodulatory Activity of Aqueous Extract of Heracleum persicum Desf. in Mice
Studies have demonstrated that plant extracts possess various biological characteristics, including immunomodulatory activity. Heracleum persicum Desf. (Apiaceae), a medicinal plant native to Iran, was studied for its immunomodulatory activity. Immunomodulatory activity of different doses of an aqueous extract of H. persicum, was evaluated in female Swiss albino mice. Mice were treated with three doses (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight) for 5 days. Body weight, relative organ weight, delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) response and haemagglutination titre (HT) were studied in various groups of animals. No significant body...

Evaluation of In Vitro Cytotoxic Effects of Juniperus foetidissima and Juniperus sabina Extracts Against a Panel of Cancer Cells
Isolation of some potent anti-tumor compounds from medicinal plants has motivated researchers to screen different parts of plant for their anti-tumor effects. It has been reported that several species of conifers posses ’ cytotoxic activities on some tumor cell lines. Here branchlets and berries of Juniperus foetidissima and J. sabina were collected, dried and ethanol extracts of them obtained using percolation. Extracts were dried in reduced pressure and cytotoxic effects of different concentrations (5, 10, 20 ?g/ml) were evaluated by MTT assay against three tumor cell lines (Hela, KB, MDA-MB-468), using ELISA at ...

Badrakemonin, a New Eremophilane-Type Sesquiterpene from the Roots of Ferula badrakema Kos.-Pol.
Phytochemical investigation of the dichloromethane extract of the dried roots of Ferula badrakema resulted in the identification of one new and six known compounds. Known compounds were sesquiterpene coumarins: mogoltacin, feselol, badrakemin acetate, ferocaulidin, conferone and conferol acetate. The new compound was a sesquiterpene, named badrakemonin. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by extensive NMR spectroscopic methods including 1D-(1H and 13C) and 2D-NMR (HSQC, HMBC, and ROESY) as well as MS experiments.
