Using surface-active ionic liquid-assisted cloud point extraction for pre-concentration and determination of cobalt ions in pharmaceutical preparations
Herein we describe an efficient, simple and precise micelle-mediated microextraction strategy based on the aggregation behavior of surface-active ionic liquids (SAILs) for the pre-concentration and determination of cobalt ions in pharmaceutical preparations. Unlike the Commonly used hydrophobic ionic liquids in IL-based microextraction methods, a water-soluble surface-active ionic liquid (1-hexadecyl 3-methylimidazolium chloride (C16MeImCl)) was used. A modified cloud point extraction (CPE) procedure based on the C16MeImCl-Triton X-114 mixed-micellar system as an efficient extracting phase was proposed. Comparison of the a...

Targeting EGFR tyrosine kinase: Design, Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Novel Quinazolinone Derivatives
In this study, two novel series of EGFR-TKIs containing quinazolinone core were designed and synthesized. Most compounds showed reasonable inhibitory activity against EGFR-TK compared to that of erlotinib, a reversible inhibitor of this enzyme. Compound 8b, 2-((2-Chlorobenzyl)amino)-6-phenoxyquinazolin-4(1H)-one, with an IC50 value of 1.37 nM exhibited the highest potency. Molecular docking study of compound 8b showed that it had the same direction of erlotinib and formed proper hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions with the important amino acid residues of the active site. Based on in silico calculations of ADME pro...

Spectrofluoremetric method for the monitoring of methotrexate in patients ’ plasma samples and cell lysates
For the first time, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, and boron-doped carbon dot (N,S,P,B-co-doped CDs) was synthesized through a hydrothermal reaction. The produced CDs were utilized to develop an optical sensor for the determination of methotrexate (MTX) in cell lysates and patients’ plasma samples. Basically, in the presence of MTX, the fluorescence emission of the CDs-based probe was quenched. Under optimum conditions, a good proportional relationship was obtained between the quenched fluorescence signal and the concentrations of MTX from 74.9 ng/mL to 99.9µg/mL with a limit of detection (LOD) of 74.9 n...

Berberine sensitizes breast cancer cells to tamoxifen by inhibiting the expression of ER- α36
Berberine is an isoquinoline alkaloid purified from Chinese herbs, which is reported to have antitumor effects. Berberine is also reported to enhance the anticancer effect of tamoxifen (TAM) in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer cells, but the underlying mechanism involved is still not clear. The aim of our present study is to determine the role of one new variant of ER-α, ER-α36, in the TAM sensitizing effect of berberine towards TAM-resistant breast cancer cells. We found that berberine potently sensitized the TAM-resistant breast cancer cells, including MCF7-TAMR and BT474 cells, to TAM tr...
