Comparison of prognosis of five scoring systems in emphysematous pyelonephritis patients requiring intensive care
ConclusionNEWS score seemed to be the best performing physiologic score among the five scoring systems studied and may help with biological and radiological findings to quickly identify EPN patients that need intensive care unit. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

Minimally invasive surgery for pleuroperitoneal communication complicating peritoneal dialysis
ConclusionsVideo-assisted thoracoscopic direct closure of the defective diaphragm and mechanical rub pleurodesis plus chemical pleurodesis using pseudomonas aeruginosa injection postoperatively is a safe and effective option for the treatment of pleuroperitoneal communication complicating continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis with 100% success rate. Improving sleep quality is essential for enhancing soluble Klotho levels in hemodialysis patients
ConclusionIn this study, a significant association between sleep quality and soluble Klotho levels was revealed in hemodialysis patients. Improving sleep quality will lead to increased soluble Klotho levels, which may further slow down the aging process in hemodialysis patients. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

Association of malnutrition with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with mild to severe chronic kidney disease undergoing coronary angiography: a large multicenter longitudinal study
ConclusionMalnutrition is common among patients with mild to severe CKD undergoing CAG and is strongly associated with increased risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. Malnutrition seems to have a modestly stronger impact on mortality in patients with mild to moderate CKD.This study was registered at Clinicaltrials.gov as NCT05050877. Serpina3n/serpina3 alleviates cyclophosphamide-induced interstitial cystitis by activating the Wnt/ β-catenin signal
ConclusionSerpina3n/serpina3 expression was decreased in IC/BPS. Overexpression of serpina3n could alleviate CYP-induced IC/BPS by activating the Wnt/ β-catenin signal. This study may provide a new therapeutic strategy for IC/BPS. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

Associated factors of osteoporosis and vascular calcification in patients awaiting kidney transplantation
ConclusionThe involvement of high iPTH levels in vascular calcification, osteoporosis, and malnutrition indicated the need of treating hyperparathyroidism early in patients awaiting kidney transplantation. Prospective studies are needed to further examine the utility of bone turnover markers. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

Laser enucleation of the prostate (LEP) vs. simple prostatectomy: an analysis of hospital charges and comparison of practice trends
ConclusionsLEP should be considered a cost-effective alternative to SP. Regions of the U.S. that perform more LEPs have shorter length of stay and lower hospital charges associated with the procedure. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

Comparison of different anastomosis angles in radiocephalic fistula with modified functional end-to-side anastomosis
Conclusion30 –50°were the best anastomotic angles for functional ETS anastomosis, which had the highest PPR and lowest CRR near anastomotic venous segment. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) versus transperineal laser ablation (TPLA) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): prospective and comparative study
ConclusionAccording to the first-year results of TPLA, the symptomatic improvement effect without sacrificing ejaculatory functions is comparable to TURP. We think that this method will can be an alternative, especially for patients who want to avoid ejaculatory dysfunction, who have a high risk of anesthesia, and whose anticoagulant/antiplatelet therapy cannot be discontinued.
