Incidence, risk factors, and prognosis of sciatic nerve injury in acetabular fractures: a retrospective cross-sectional study
ConclusionThis study emphasizes the incidence of sciatic nerve injuries in individuals with acetabulum fractures and highlights key risk factors, including hip dislocation, posterior column, and posterior wall fractures. It is noteworthy that the Kocher Langenbeck approach and the prone position may contribute to iatrogenic nerve injuries. Encouragingly, over half of the patients who suffered nerve injuries achieved full recovery, while nearly one-third experienced partial recovery. These findings underscore the vital significance of recognizing and addressing these risk factors in clinical practice. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Distal insertion of the clavicular portion of pectoralis major muscle: anatomical study
ConclusionsThe distal tendon of the PM only comes from the muscle fibres of its sternal head. The CH fibres do not contribute to this tendon but appear to terminate in a separate tendon fusing with the humeral insertion of the deltoid: the deltopectoral tendon. This could explain the different patterns of tears observed in clinical practice. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Our experience with the surgical management of lower cervical spine fractures: fifty case series
ConclusionOur study concluded that dislocations and fracture dislocations were the predominant type of injury in cases of AVP. Tetraplegia was mainly observed with uni- and biarticular dislocations. The variation in consolidation time was not correlated with trauma-to-surgery time. Better neurological recovery was observed with mild initial neurological damage than with initially severe damage. The appearance of an adjacent syndrome is less frequent with monosegmental arthrodesis than with multisegmental arthrodesis. Cage arthrodesis was an alternative to iliac harvesting with similar results. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Geriatric distal femoral fractures: post-operative complications and nine-year mortality —a retrospective analysis of two tertiary trauma centres
ConclusionElderly fractures have a high mortality at eight years of follow-up. Mortality at one year was much higher than in other studies of the same nature. We did not find statistically significant differences when comparing native bone fractures with periprosthetic fractures. Factors that impact mortality were being a man, advanced age, elevated index comorbidity, and dementia. There is no relationship between the time to be taken to the surgical procedure and mortality results. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Subscapularis impairment on magnetic resonance imaging is correlated with functional limitations in neonatal brachial plexus palsy
ConclusionsIn NBPP children, subscapularis impairments play a major role in the functional limitations. This study of pediatric NBPP patients highlighted the value of adding an examination of the muscles to routine MRI assessment of bone parameters in the shoulders of NBPP children.Trial registrationNCT03440658. The impact of COVID-19 on hip and knee arthroplasty surgical volume in China
ConclusionDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, although hip and knee arthroplasty surgical volume in China showed a similar “restoration-recovery” change pattern with other countries, China took fewer losses in this field. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Augmented versus non-augmented Trochanteric Fixation Nail-Advanced (TFNA) nails for treating trochanteric fractures in patients over sixty-five years of age
ConclusionsFor patients aged over 65  years, the use of the augmented TFNA nail may reduce the risk of fixation failures such as cut-out. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Early history of posterior malleolus fractures in ankle fractures
ConclusionThe early history of diagnostics and treatment of PM fractures witnesses the remarkable body of knowledge gathered about that topic by numerous visionary surgeons predominantly French and German surgeons immediately before and after World War I. They substantially contributed to the radiological examination and operative treatment of this injury. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Dyslipidaemia is associated with Cutibacterium acnes hip and knee prosthetic joint infection
ConclusionsThe presence of elevated TG and low HDL were both associated at a statistically significant level withC. acnes hip or knee PJI compared to controls with either MSSA PJI or no infection. This may represent a specific risk factor forC. acnes PJI that is modifiable. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Comparing patient-reported outcomes of the Oxford Ankle and Foot Questionnaire in children with clubfoot from two different geographic and cultural environments: a cohort study in India and Canada
ConclusionsA difference was observed in scores between both sites, suggesting there may be differences in how these populations assess personal health outcomes. These findings support the need for cultural validity of patient-reported outcome measures. (Source: International Orthopaedics)
