Knot holding capacity of two different high-strength sutures —a biomechanical analysis
ConclusionsThe lower number of throws providing knot security of DC versus FW in the  more realistic wet and fatty-wet conditions indicates that the novel DC suture may allow to decrease the foreign body volume and save surgical time without compromising the biomechanical competence. Heterotopic hip ossification resection: monocentric experiences of associated factors, outcomes, and complications
ConclusionSurgical HO removal in symptomatic patients with high-grade disease produces good clinical and radiographic results. Radiotherapy was a good perioperative and preventive strategy for recurrence, also associated with NSAIDs and COX-2 inhibitors. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Long head of the biceps tendon versatility in reconstructive shoulder surgery: a narrative review of arthroscopic techniques and their biomechanical principles with video presentation
AbstractThe management of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) during shoulder arthroscopy has been a subject of controversy for many years, with evolving discussions and trends. Despite long-standing debate, the nature of the surgical indication regarding how to treat concomitent LHBT injuries has undergone changes in recent years. It now extends beyond the timing of tenotomy to encompass considerations of alternative methods for preserving the LHBT, along with an ongoing exploration of how it can be effectively utilized in reconstructive shoulder surgery. Recent techniques describe approaches to using LHBT in a wide...

What are the differences in the recovery of physical function and clinical score between patients with steroid-related osteonecrosis of the femoral head and hip osteoarthritis undergoing total hip arthroplasty? A propensity score –matched study
ConclusionsPatients with steroid-related ONFH experience positive outcomes in clinical score following THA. Propensity score matching effectively identified muscle weakness on both operative and nonoperative sides, highlighting its utility in comparative analyses. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Functional and radiological outcomes of periacetabular osteotomy for hip dysplasia in patients under fifty years using a minimally invasive approach —a single surgeon series with a minimum follow up of two years
ConclusionMinimally invasive periacetabular osteotomy is a safe procedure that provides significant functional outcome improvements following surgery at six  months which is maintained at two years. More than three-fourths of patients achieved improvement of iHOT-12 score beyond the minimal clinically important difference and more than half of the patients achieved substantial clinical benefit for iHOT-12 score. Poor clinical outcomes and high rates of dislocation after modular reverse shoulder arthroplasty for proximal humeral oncologic resection
ConclusionIn our experience, the MUTARS ™ Implantcast™ modular RSA has poor functional results and a high rate of dislocation in the case of large proximal humerus resections below the distal insertion of the deltoid. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Traumatic rotator cuff injury: does delayed surgery worsen functional outcomes?
ConclusionDelayed surgery for traumatic RCT greater than 6  months from injury did not negatively impact long-term functional outcomes at our unit. Patients should be reassured as applicable before surgery in the event of prolonged or unavoidable delays. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

High femoral offset as a risk factor for aseptic femoral component loosening in cementless primary total hip arthroplasty
ConclusionHigh femoral offset combinations, formed by lateralized stems or large femoral head lengths in our collective of standard straight stems implanted by an anterior approach, show a 3.7-fold increased probability for aseptic femoral component loosening. Adjustment of the postoperative protocol may be considered in these cases to ensure proper stem ingrowth. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Saw-box osteotomy versus reamer-box osteotomy in posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty: a retrospective study of an average five  year follow-up
ConclusionThe method of box cutting has an impact on the function and longevity of posterior stabilized primary knee implants. The risk of periprosthetic fractures can be reduced by proper patient selection, decreasing the box sizes, and development of more “controlled” box osteotomy instruments. Surgical treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta: a summary of the incidence of femoral implant-related complications in children with Sillence type I, III and IV
ConclusionsIn our cohort, lower incidence of IRCs was observed in telescopic rod group compared with plate, Kirschner wire and elastic nail. Procedure and age of surgery were independent risk factors of fracture. Likewise, procedure and age of surgery were independent risk factors of deformity, and procedure was independent risk factors of IRC. (Source: International Orthopaedics)

Evaluation of the long-term patient-reported outcomes after hip arthroplasty or joint preserving with Sugioka femoral osteotomy in patients with femoral head osteonecrosis
ConclusionThis study found that CVO and THA are clinically effective treatments for ONFH, with significant improvements compared with preoperative scores. However, THA was associated with significantly higher PROMs and pain scores than those of CVO and TRO in long-term follow-up. Furthermore, our results suggest that postoperative PROMs depend mainly on the preoperative level of collapse and postoperative transposed intact ratio of the articular surface of the femoral head. Telemedicine in orthopaedics during the COVID-19 pandemic: a comparative landscape
ConclusionAlthough the COVID-19 pandemic has posed unique challenges for healthcare providers, there was a great advancement in the rollout and application of telemedicine. To mitigate the spread of infection from coronavirus and given the recent adjustments to reimbursement policies and HIPAA regulations, orthopaedics saw a dramatic expansion of telemedicine since April 2020. The pandemic may have served as a catalyst to adopt telehealth into clinical practice. However, telehealth saw a downtrend trend by December 2020, particularly in procedure-based fields like orthopaedics and oncology. (Source: International Orthopaedics)
