Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp: Report of three cases
We report three such cases presenting with pus-filled lesions of the scalp with nonspecific pathological changes. This condition is often misdiagnosed and shows a poor response to antibiotics. Clinical suspicion is of primary importance for early diagnosis and proper treatment. (Source: International Journal of Trichology)

Vitamin D levels in alopecia areata and other alopecias: A retrospective case & #8211;control study at a single institution
Patrick Thanh Tran, Alessandra Chen, Lynn Yi, Carolyn GohInternational Journal of Trichology 2022 14(5):175-177 Recent research has associated alopecia areata (AA), an autoimmune disorder, with deficiency of Vitamin D, which regulates immune processes. This retrospective study compared Vitamin D levels in AA patients to those of other alopecia diagnoses and nonalopecia controls. When compared to controls, patients with AA or other alopecia diagnoses did not demonstrate lower Vitamin D levels. However, when compared to other alopecia diagnoses, AA patients had a statistically significantly higher proportion of patients wit...

Scanning electron microscopy of the inner and outer aspects of tiger tail hairs
Conclusions: These findings suggest that this condition is due to some deficient protein synthesis/arrangement, not only due to cavities in the hair cortex. The term Tiger tail hair is a descriptive clinical term of little scientific rigor. This disorder has been reported mainly as pili annulati; however, rings are not observed. In analogy to pili canaliculi, in which well-formed grooving is observed in the hair surface, we suggest the term pili microcanaliculi to describe this condition, based in the ultrastructural findings. A clinico-trichoscopic analysis of hair density and diameter variability in relation to severity grading of female pattern hair loss
Conclusion: Trichoscopic tools, particularly hair density and hair diameter variance over both frontal and occipital scalp can be useful to help determine FPHL disease severity and its progression. (Source: International Journal of Trichology)

Comparative efficacy of injection triamcinolone acetonide given intralesionally and through microneedling in alopecia areata
Conclusions: ILCSs have been cornerstone in the treatment of limited AA, but depth of injecting drug cannot be controlled, microneedling whereas is an effective drug delivery system and also causes release of growth factors. In this study, injectable TA used intralesionally and topically with microneedling had nearly similar efficacy in causing regrowth of hair with microneedling resulting in a more uniform but less dense regrowth of hair with lesser adverse effects. Transient rectangular alopecia after endovascular embolization: A case series of four patients describing dermoscopic and histopathologic findings
We present a case series of four patients from our hospital describing dermoscopic and histopathologic findings. Dermoscopic findings overlap with those of alopecia areata; therefore, TRAAE may be misdiagnosed without a precise history. Histopathology analysis of one of our cases showed different characteristics from the only report in the literature (high proportion of follicles in telogen phase). Initial reports considered that total radiation doses between 3 and 5 Gy produced TRAEE, whereas doses higher than 7Gy could trigger permanent alopecia. However, one of our patients exposed to a total dose of 7.6 Gy had complete...

Recovery of resistant alopecia areata treated with tofacitinib: An 8-year-old child & #39;s case report
We report the case of a young Indian boy with resistant AA who was treated with tofacitinib-based therapy. Improvements in terms of hair regrowth were observed within 6–8 weeks of treatment with oral tofacitinib 2.5 mg BID tablets, and the hair regrowth was nearly complete by 5 months. There were no associated side effects and the treatment with tofacitinib was well-tolerated. (Source: International Journal of Trichology)

A method to measure oil penetration into hair and correlation to tensile strength
Conclusions: The present study shows that conjoint assessment of hair thickness and cohesive force post oil application can be a suitable method to indicate the extent of oil penetration into the hair. Overall, the study indicated the positive influence of oil penetration on hair strength. (Source: International Journal of Trichology)

Characteristics of patients with hair loss after isotretinoin treatment: A retrospective review study
Conclusion: Although the exact mechanism of how retinoids affect hair loss is still unclear, our findings suggest dosage or duration of usage may be associated. This information may be useful in counseling patients who may be concerned about hair loss when considering isotretinoin treatment. (Source: International Journal of Trichology)

Alopecic and aseptic nodules of the scalp: A new entity or a minor form of dissecting cellulitis ?
Ngoc-Nhi Catharina Luu, Natalia Caballero Uribe, Maria Fernanda Reis Gavazzoni Dias, Hudson Dutra Rezende, Ralph Michel TrüebInternational Journal of Trichology 2022 14(4):120-124 Since the original report in 1992 and revised nomenclature in 2009, pseudocysts of the scalp and alopecic and aseptic nodules of the scalp (AANS), respectively, have been regarded as a new entity that is rare and not understood in its pathogenesis. We observed 26 cases of AANS. Except for the extent and severity of disease, we found no single feature that justifies distinguishing AANS as a nosologic entity in its own right from disse...
