Perforated Diverticulitis: To Anastomose or Not to Anastomose? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
No consensus has been reached in the management of perforated diverticulitis. Many surgeons opt for a Hartmann's procedure to avoid the risk of an anastomotic leak. We hypothesize that resection with primary anastomosis is a safe alternative in selected patients. We aim to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis on the available literature. Comments on the article “The prognostic significance of preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma receiving hepatectomy: a systematic review and meta-analysis”
We read with great interest the systematic review and meta-analysis entitled “The prognostic significance of preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma receiving hepatectomy: a systematic review and meta-analysis” [1] by Wang et al. They found the preoperative Neutrophil-Lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was significantly associated with the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma patients after surgery. Long non-coding RNA activated by TGF- β Expression in Cancer Prognosis: A Meta-analysis
Recently, long noncoding RNA activated by transforming growth factor beta (TGF- β) (lncRNA ATB) was shown be useful in cancer prognosis, however, its prognostic value in human cancer has been inconsistent. Our study aimed to explore the prognostic role of lncRNA ATB expression in cancer prognosis. (Source: International Journal of Surgery)

The efficacy and safety of methylprednisolone for pain control after total knee arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Pain management after arthroplasties has become a serious problem. We perform a meta-analysis from randomized controlled trial (RCTs) to examine the efficacy and safety of methylprednisolone in the setting of postoperative pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Improving emergency surgical care for patients with right iliac fossa pain at a regional scale: a Quality Improvement study using the Supported Champions implementation strategy
Methods to improve clinical systems safety suffer from significant difficulties in implementation and scaling up. We used an upscaling implementation strategy entitled Supported Champions in a quality and safety improvement programme for emergency surgery at regional level, focusing on patients with right iliac fossa pain. Integrated analysis of the prognostic role of the lymph node ratio in node-positive gastric cancer: A meta-analysis
The lymph node ratio (LNR) as a prognostic parameter for gastric cancer has yet to be fully validated in the current tumor node metastasis staging system. We assessed the prognostic role of LNR in lymph node-positive gastric cancer through a meta-analysis. (Source: International Journal of Surgery)

Appraising the Uptake and Use of the IDEAL Framework and Recommendations: A Review of the Literature
Evaluation of new surgical innovations is complex and variably regulated, and historically the quality of surgical studies has been criticized. The IDEAL (Idea, Development, Exploration, Assessment, Long-term monitoring) Framework was established to provide a pathway for evaluating surgical innovations at each stage of their development in order to produce high quality surgical research. Since the inception of IDEAL in 2009, there has been no assessment of its use. In this review, we look at the uptake and usage of IDEAL by examining the published literature.
