FLAER as a standalone reagent for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria: Do we need to reconsider the guidelines for testing?
CONCLUSION: Based on our results, FLAER as a standalone marker is specific and sensitive for identifying PNH clones in granulocytes and monocytes, even for high-sensitivity PNH assay. The proposed "FLAER-only panel" panel is efficient and cost-effective for highly sensitive PNH testing in two different cell lineages, especially in resource-limited clinical settings.PMID:38069562 | DOI:10.1111/ijlh.14213 (Source: International Journal of Laboratory Hematology)

Prognostic significance of the frequencies of bone marrow lymphocyte subsets in adult acute myeloid leukemia at diagnosis
CONCLUSION: The frequencies of BM lymphocyte subsets at diagnosis predicted clinical outcomes and could help improve risk stratification in AML.PMID:38069563 | DOI:10.1111/ijlh.14214 (Source: International Journal of Laboratory Hematology)

Th9/IL-9 may participate in the pathogenesis of multiple myeloma
CONCLUSION: The results demonstrate that Th9/IL-9 may be involved in the pathogenesis of MM and is correlated with worse patient conditions such as lower hemoglobin and serum albumin. More work is necessary to confirm whether they might serve as a useful therapeutic target and prognostic marker for MM.PMID:38058269 | DOI:10.1111/ijlh.14210 (Source: International Journal of Laboratory Hematology)

Report of the International Council for Standardization in Haematology working group for standardization of reticulocyte parameters
CONCLUSION: While reticulocyte counting is correlated between the automated methods evaluated in this study, the current state of harmonization of other reticulocyte parameters is not as strong. A major challenge in moving this field forward is the need for commutable materials to facilitate comparisons between analyzers not co-located. A potential alternate approach to improve the current state would be instrument re-calibration. However, this is challenging both technically and due to national regulatory frameworks.PMID:38054856 | DOI:10.1111/ijlh.14209 (Source: International Journal of Laboratory Hematology)

Thrombin generation assay in platelet-poor plasma in children with iron deficiency anemia
CONCLUSION: Children with IDA have increased endogenous thrombin production in platelet-poor plasma and a tendency for hypercoagulability. These changes are reversible, and the ETP values become similar to those of healthy children 1 month after iron replacement.PMID:38041255 | DOI:10.1111/ijlh.14206 (Source: International Journal of Laboratory Hematology)

Anti-factor Xa as the preferred assay to monitor heparin for the treatment of pulmonary embolism
CONCLUSION: We observed a low incidence of recurrent thromboembolism or PE-associated mortality utilizing an antiXa titrated UFH protocol. The use of an antiXa based heparin assay to guide heparin dosing and monitoring allows for timely and sustained therapeutic anticoagulation for treatment of PE.PMID:37989523 | DOI:10.1111/ijlh.14207 (Source: International Journal of Laboratory Hematology)
