Meta-analysis of cryoablation versus radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of malignant liver tumors
CONCLUSION: The efficacy and safety profile of CRA was comparable to that of RFA in the context of ablation therapy for hepatic malignancies. These findings suggested that CRA may be a valuable alternative to RFA in the treatment of hepatic malignancies.PMID:38190758 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2023.2300347 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Construction of a 12-gene prognostic model for colorectal cancer based on heat shock protein-related genes
This study explored the prognostic significance of HSP-related genes in CRC. Transcriptional data and clinical information of CRC patients were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, and a literature search was conducted to identify HSP-related genes. Using Least Absolute Selection and Shrinkage Operator (LASSO) regression and univariate/multivariate Cox regression analyses, 12 HSP-related genes demonstrating significant associations with CRC survival were successfully identified and employed to formulate a predictive risk score model. The efficacy and precision of this model were validated utilizing TCGA a...

Long-term outcome and risk factors of reintervention after high intensity focused ultrasound ablation for uterine fibroids: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis showed that the overall reintervention rates after HIFU were acceptable and provided consultative suggestions regarding treatment alternatives for patients with fibroids. Subgroup-analysis revealed that USgHIFU, NPVR ≥ 50%, and hypo-/iso-intensity of fibroids on T2WI were significant factors in reducing reintervention.SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION: PROSPERO, CRD42023456094.PMID:38164630 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2023.2299479 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Factors associated with thermal injury of abdominal skin in focused ultrasound ablation of uterine fibroids
CONCLUSIONS: Based on our limited results, the following conclusion was made. (1) Abdominal scars, abdominal wall thickness, fundus fibroids, UFs with T2WI hyperintense/mixed signals, AP and TT were independent risk factor. (2) Neither too thick nor too thin abdominal walls would be recommended, as both might increase the risk of skin injury. (3) Noticeably, the risk of skin injury might increase considerably when the ST was longer and the sonication area was more fixed.PMID:38159557 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2023.2295232 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Percutaneous ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation for patients with liver metastases from gastrointestinal stromal tumors
CONCLUSIONS: Liver metastases from GIST exhibit relatively mild biological behavior. RFA is safe and effective, particularly in patients without pre-RFA extrahepatic metastases. Patients received targeted therapy before RFA can obtain an extended HPFS.PMID:38159558 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2023.2292950 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

US-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound in pancreatic cancer treatment: a consensus initiative between Chinese and European HIFU centers
Conclusions: US-guided HIFU for advanced pancreatic cancer addresses treatment goals, available options, success rates, and limitations. As a non-invasive, effective local therapy, complementary to chemotherapy and best supportive care, it plays a pivotal role in pain relief, reducing of tumor volume, and potentially improving survival rates.PMID:38159562 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2023.2295812 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)
