Feasibility of heating metal implants with alternating magnetic fields (AMF) in scaled up models
Conclusion: This study confirmed that AMF technology can be scaled up to treat implants in a large animal model with the same rates of heating and peak temperatures achieved in prior in vitro studies. Further, numerical simulations provided accurate predictions of the heating produced by AMF on metal implants and surrounding tissues, and can be used to design AMF coils for treating human prosthetic joint implants with more complex geometrical shapes.PMID:34949138 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2021.2011434 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Clearance of HR-HPV within one year after focused ultrasound or loop electrosurgical excision procedure in patients with HSIL under 30
CONCLUSIONS: For HPV-positive HSIL patients under 30, FUS had a better HR-HPV clearance effect than LEEP 1 year after treatment. FUS may be a viable modality for the treatment of young HSIL patients.PMID:34937489 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2021.2010817 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Long-term outcomes of combined transarterial chemoembolization and radiofrequency ablation versus RFA monotherapy for single hepatocellular carcinoma ≤3 cm: emphasis on local tumor progression
CONCLUSIONS: TACE-RFA is superior to RFA monotherapy in providing local tumor control for small HCC with tumor size 2-3 cm in diameter, subphrenic location, perivessel and HCCs with well-defined lipiodol deposition by TACE before RFA.PMID:34937501 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2021.1998660 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Tolerability of long-term temperature controlled whole-body thermal treatment in advanced cancer-bearing dogs
Conclusion: We conclude that our findings support the safe use of HyperTherm-mediated WBTT for canine patients with advanced malignancies. They also tend to support a genuine therapeutic potential for long-term WBTT which needs to be confirmed on a larger dog patient population. Combined with previously reported safety results in minipigs, these contribute to support the ongoing clinical evaluation of WBTT in advanced human cancer patients.PMID:34937522 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2021.2000649 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Periprocedural factors associated with overall patient survival following percutaneous image-guided liver tumor cryoablation
CONCLUSIONS: All variables associated with overall survival were patient-related and none were associated with the cryoablation procedure. Pre-procedural thrombocytopenia, larger tumor size and history of prior local radiation therapy were independent risk factors for reduced overall survival in patients undergoing hepatic cryoablation. Adverse events related to hepatic cryoablation were not associated with decreased survival.PMID:34937523 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2021.2013552 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound is a reliable and reproducible assessment of necrotic ablated volume after radiofrequency ablation for benign thyroid nodules: a retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: CEUS could provide a reliable and reproducible assessment of Va after RFA for benign thyroid nodules. In clinical post-ablation follow-up, the irregular morphology of ablated area and the variation by different observers could not affect the assessment of Va by CEUS.PMID:34936850 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2021.1991009 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Factors related to the absorption rate of benign thyroid nodules after image-guided microwave ablation: a 3-year follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: US-guided image-guided MWA results in satisfactory long-term outcomes for the patients with BTNs. Factors related to nodule absorption rate were the volume and margin of the nodule, energy per ml in nodular volume and blockage of peripheral flow.PMID:34936851 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2021.1995632 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Predicting the coagulation volume induced by microwave ablation of hepatocellular carcinoma: the role of deposited energy, < em > ex-vivo < /em > bovine liver charts and central hyperdense area on post-treatment CT
CONCLUSIONS: The average dimensions of the ablation zone induced by the considered system on HCC increase linearly with the deposited energy and are fairly well predicted by the corresponding ex-vivo dimensions. The ratio between each linear dimension of A and C zones was found to be roughly constant over a large deposited energy span, both ex-vivo and in-vivo.PMID:34927518 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2021.1986642 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)
