Analysis of overweight/obese pediatric patients with acute myeloid leukemia: a report from the Japanese Pediatric Leukemia/Lymphoma Study Group AML-05 study
Int J Hematol. 2024 Mar 9. doi: 10.1007/s12185-024-03745-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe dosage of chemotherapy drugs for overweight/obese children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has been empirically reduced based on ideal body weight (BW) in Japan to reduce the risk of adverse events. We investigated the associations between pre-therapeutic body mass index (BMI) and clinical outcomes among children with AML. A total of 280 children were divided into two groups based on the World Health Organization Child Growth Standards: a healthy-weight group (n = 254), and an overweight/obese group (n = 26). If BW exceeded 1.2 ...

Prevalence of chromosome 8p11.2 translocations and correlation with myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms associated with FGFR1 abnormalities in a consecutive cohort from nine institutions in Japan
Int J Hematol. 2024 Mar 8. doi: 10.1007/s12185-024-03740-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMyeloid and lymphoid neoplasms associated with FGFR1 abnormalities (MLN-FGFR1 abnormalities) are rare hematologic malignancies associated with chromosome 8p11.2 abnormalities. Translocations of 8p11.2 were detected in 10 of 17,039 (0.06%) unique patient cytogenetic studies performed at nine institutions in Japan. No inversions or insertions of 8p11.2 were detected. Among the 10 patients with 8p11.2 translocations, three patients were diagnosed with MLN-FGFR1 abnormalities, which were confirmed by FISH analysis. Peripheral blood eosino...

Characteristics and literature review of ETV6::ABL1 fusion gene-positive acute myeloid leukemia
CONCLUSION: ETV6::ABL1 is a rare but recurrent genetic aberration in AML, and the combined use of fluorescence in situ hybridization and PCR can better identify this fusion gene. Patients carrying ETV6::ABL1 have a high relapse rate and a poor prognosis. TKIs are a reasonable treatment option for this group, and allo-HSCT may be curative.PMID:38441775 | DOI:10.1007/s12185-024-03729-9 (Source: International Journal of Hematology)
