Propensity Score Analysis of Radical Hysterectomy Versus Definitive Chemoradiation for FIGO Stage IIB Cervical Cancer
Conclusions The results of this study suggest that RH with adjuvant radiotherapy and definitive CRT are equivalent treatment options for patients with FIGO stage IIB cancer. However, prospective larger studies are needed to confirm this. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Rising Rates of Upfront Surgery in Early Locally Advanced Cervical Cancer: What Factors Predict for This Treatment Paradigm?
In this study, we analyzed patterns of care for patients with locally advanced cervical cancer to identify predictors for upfront surgery compared with definitive chemoradiation (CRT). Methods The National Cancer Database was queried for patients aged 18 years or older with Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics IB2–IIB cervical cancer. All patients underwent either upfront hysterectomy with or without postoperative radiation therapy versus definitive CRT. Logistic regression was used to assess variables associated with modality of treatment (surgery vs CRT). Results Of the 9494 patients included, 2151 (22.7%) und...

The Utility of Pretreatment and Posttreatment Lymphopenia in Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients Treated With Definitive Chemoradiotherapy
Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic significance of pretreatment and posttreatment lymphopenia in locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cervical cancer patients treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy (ChRT). Methods Data from 95 patients with SCC were retrospectively analyzed. Relationships between pretreatment or posttreatment lymphopenia and patient or tumor characteristics, and overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were evaluated. Results Median follow-ups for the entire cohort and survivors were 68 months (range, 3–133 months) and 88 months (range, 22...

Tumor Size at Magnetic Resonance Imaging Association With Lymph Node Metastasis and Lymphovascular Space Invasion in Resectable Cervical Cancer: A Multicenter Evaluation of Surgical Specimens
Objective To determine whether gross tumor volume (GTV) and the maximum diameter of resectable cervical cancer at magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could predict lymph node metastasis (LNM) and lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI). Materials and Methods A total of 315 consecutive patients with cervical cancer were retrospectively identified. Gross tumor volume and the maximum diameter of tumor were evaluated on MRI. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine whether tumor size could predict LNM and LVSI. Cutoffs of GTV, maximum diameter, and the International Federation of Gyne...

Characterization of Primary Cilia in Normal Fallopian Tube Epithelium and Serous Tubal Intraepithelial Carcinoma
Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of primary cilia on secretory cells in normal fallopian tube (FT) and serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC). Methods Fallopian tube tissue samples were obtained from 4 females undergoing prophylactic hysterectomies and 6 patients diagnosed with STIC. A mogp-TAg transgenic mouse STIC sample was also compared with a wild-type mouse FT sample. Serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma was identified by hematoxylin and eosin staining and confirmed by positive Ki-67 and p53 immunohistochemical staining of tissue sections. We assessed the relative dis...

Other Primary Malignancies Among Women With Adult-Type Ovarian Granulosa Cell Tumors
Conclusions There is an increased risk for thyroid and soft tissue cancer as well as leukemia after AGCT, which may be associated with late effects of carcinogenic treatments and possibly shared risk factors. After breast cancer, the risk for AGCT was higher, which may indicate a shared hormonal etiology. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Predictive Factors for Surgical Morbidities and Adjuvant Chemotherapy Delay for Advanced Ovarian Cancer Patients Treated by Primary Debulking Surgery or Interval Debulking Surgery
Conclusions Comorbidities and intraoperative bleeding are the most relevant findings related to surgical complications. Surgical approach (PDS or IDS) was not related with complications. Surgical complications were significantly related to ACD. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

The BRCA1 Methylation and PD-L1 Expression in Sporadic Ovarian Cancer
Conclusions This is the first study linking BRCA1 hypermethylation variability to PD-L1 protein expression and the clinicopathologic features of OC. The data demonstrated that an epigenetic alteration of BRCA1 was closely associated with serous OC. The expression of PD-L1 was unrelated to the clinicopathologic features or BRCA1 hypermethylation in sporadic OC. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Clinical Outcome After Completion Surgery in Patients With Ovarian Cancer: The Charite Experience
Conclusions Recent research has shown that the most profound impact on survivorship occurs when women get proper care from surgeons trained in the latest techniques for treating ovarian cancer. Completion surgery maintained that even after initial incomplete cytoreduction outside of the high specialized units, after applying appropriate surgery techniques macroscopically, disease-free situation is achievable and outcomes are comparable with the results of primary debulking surgery.
