Proceedings From the 1st International Conference "Current Concepts and Controversies in Gynecologic and Urologic Oncology"
The N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Center of Belarus organized a collaborative international conference entitled "Current Concepts and Controversies in Gynecologic and Urologic Oncology" with the International Gynecologic Cancer Society and the United States National Cancer Institute. International, regional, and national experts presented recent developments and local conditions in the treatment of gynecologic cancers. Findings were reviewed with the intent of optimizing the management of women with gynecologic cancers across the Commonwealth of Independent States region. At the end of the conference, a resolution was ad...

The Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale to Evaluate the Cosmetic Outcomes of the Robotic Single-Site Hysterectomy in Endometrial Cancer
Conclusion Robotic single-site hysterectomy provided an efficient option for gynecologic oncologic surgery. The POSAS revealed high objective and patient-evaluated outcome, and patients were highly satisfied with the overall outcome of the appearance of their scars. Surgery Versus Radiation Treatment for High-Grade Neuroendocrine Cancer of Uterine Cervix: A Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results Database Analysis
The objective of this study was to assess treatment and other factors impacting survival in cervical high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma (HGNEC). Methods/Materials We identified patients with cervical HGNECs diagnosed during 1988 to 2012 in the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results database. We determined overall survival by International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stages and by local treatment modalities, that is, radical surgery versus external beam radiation treatment (EBRT) plus brachytherapy using Kaplan-Meier analysis with log-rank test. We also determined factors of age, stage, and treatment moda...

Do Groin Drains Reduce Postoperative Morbidity in Women Undergoing Inguinofemoral Lymphadenectomy for Vulvar Cancer?
Conclusions In this study of patients undergoing inguinofemoral dissection for primary vulvar cancer, postoperative cellulitis occurred less frequently in patients without an inguinal drain. The incidence of other postoperative complications was no different whether or not a groin drain was used. Prospective studies may be warranted. Invasive Paget Disease of the Vulva
Conclusions Our study confirms that invasive EPDV remains a rare gynecological neoplasm with a poor prognosis. Multicentre trials or well-organized prospective data collection could improve the knowledge about the management of invasive EPDV. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Sarcopenia Is an Important Prognostic Factor in Patients With Cervical Cancer Undergoing Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy
This study aimed to investigate the correlation of sarcopenia findings with prognostic factors in patients with cervical cancer (CC) undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Methods We retrospectively collected data on body composition and clinicopathological features from the medical records of 60 patients with CC who underwent CCRT and analyzed correlations between prognosis and changes in body composition as measured by computed tomography (skeletal muscle and iliopsoas muscle [IM]). Statistical analyses were performed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) wer...

Oncological Outcomes of Stage II Endometrial Cancer: A Retrospective Analysis of 250 Cases
Conclusions In stage II EC, adjuvant external beam radiotherapy ± VBT were associated with increased DFS but not OS. However, the benefit of VBT alone on DFS could not be demonstrated. Only age was an independent risk factor for OS. Type of hysterectomy and histologic subtype of the tumor for patients with uterus-confined disease improved neither DFS nor OS in our study group. Endometrial Cancers Harboring Mutated Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 2 Protein Are Successfully Treated With a New Small Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor in an Orthotopic Mouse Model
Conclusions AL3818 shows superior efficacy for the treatment of endometrial cancer irresponsive to conventional carboplatin and paclitaxel combination and warrants further investigation. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

The Effect of Adenomyosis in Myometrial Invasion and Overall Survival in Endometrial Cancer
Conclusions Our results showed that adenomyosis is significantly associated with lower stage in endometrial cancer that may suggest a possible limiting effect on endometrial cancer spread. In addition, despite similar rates in disease-free survival and endometrial cancer–related death, overall survival rate was significantly higher in the presence of adenomyosis and might be considered as a good prognostic factor for endometrial cancer. Sentinel Node Biopsy in Endometrial Cancer With Dual Cervical and Fundal Indocyanine Green Injection
Conclusions The SLN biopsy with both cervical and fundal ICG injection offers good overall detection rates and improved mapping of the aortic area. The SLN ultrastaging increases the number of nodes considered positive. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Incidence Patterns and Survival of Gynecological Sarcoma in Germany: Analysis of Population-Based Cancer Registry Data on 1066 Women
Conclusions Despite the rareness of GS, the size of the data set allows for a differentiation of subtypes according to morphology and site of origin. Clinically relevant differences in incidence and prognosis between subgroups were observed. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Assessing Estrogen-Induced Proliferative Response in an Endometrial Cancer Cell Line Using a Universally Applicable Methodological Guide
Conclusions We have developed a methodological guide for EC researchers when using endometrial cell lines to answer important translational research questions (exemplified by estrogen-responsive cell proliferation) to facilitate robust data, while saving time and resources. Role of Radiation Therapy in the Multidisciplinary Management of Uterine Carcinosarcoma
Conclusions Patients with UC have a high rate of relapse in the regional nodes and distant sites. External beam radiation therapy improves locoregional control in all stages and may improve survival in stage III patients who are at the highest risk of pelvic relapse.
