The impact of clinical pharmacists ’ medication reconciliation upon patients’ admission to reduce medication discrepancies in the emergency department: a prospective quasi-interventional study
ConclusionThe clinical pharmacists are the main members of the emergency health care team. One of their fundamental services is medication reconciliation. The establishment of a complete drug history list and physicians ’ discussion about the current treatment plan can obviously detect and reduce medication errors.Trial registrationNCT04395443. Reverse shock index (RSI) as a predictor of post-intubation cardiac arrest (PICA)
ConclusionRSI may be useful in predicting PICA with higher diagnostic accuracy compared to the shock index. Furthermore, advanced age, hypoxia, and hyperbilirubinemia may increase the risk of PICA in patients admitted to the ED. (Source: International Journal of Emergency Medicine)

Volume replacement in the resuscitation of trauma patients with acute hemorrhage: an umbrella review
ConclusionHypertonic crystalloid use did not result in superior 28- to 30-day survival. Increasing evidence supports the scientific rationale for early use of high-ratio blood components, but their use requires careful consideration. Preliminary evidence is very uncertain about the effects of whole blood and further high-quality studies are required. (Source: International Journal of Emergency Medicine)

Self-discharge during treatment for acute recreational drug toxicity: an observational study from emergency departments in seven European countries
ConclusionOne in eight presentations self-discharged. There was a large variation in self-discharge rates across the participating centres, possibly partly reflecting different discharge procedures and practices. Measures to improve the management of agitation and cautious administration of naloxone to avoid opioid withdrawal symptoms may be approaches worth exploring to reduce self-discharge. Assessment of suicidal ideation via telemedicine: a case report and management suggestions
ConclusionsTelemedicine centers should be prepared for direct consumer assessment of suicidal ideation. Current management suggestions include recognizing the risk profile through institutional training and software skills and immediate referral for face-to-face assessment, encouraging continuous monitoring until the admission and active recruitment of family members or closest friends. Carbon monoxide intoxication with a CO-Hb of 30% while smoking waterpipe: a case report
AbstractCarbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a significant public health issue and a considerable economic burden in developed countries. While the majority of non-fire-related CO poisonings are attributed to gas heating, there are several other less recognized sources that should be considered in the initial differential diagnosis. The patient in this case was a 21-year-old who experienced a brief episode of loss of consciousness and was subsequently admitted to the Emergency department. Upon evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with CO poisoning, which necessitated hyperbaric oxygen therapy to mitigate the effects of this t...

Pediatric injury attendances in different population groups in Israel before, during, and after COVID-19 lockdowns: a descriptive study, 2018 –2022
ConclusionsCompared to previous years, the volume of injuries was lower during lockdowns for all ages, with a relative increase in the proportion of injuries among younger children attending the ED. A lower proportion of attendance from minority groups suggests different health-seeking behavior patterns during emergencies compared to the general population. Understanding these differences will help better plan for future emergencies. (Source: International Journal of Emergency Medicine)

Emergency medicine in Nepal: are we going the right way and fast enough?
AbstractNepal is a landlocked country with variable topography including the world ’s tallest mountains, tropical forests, and Gangetic plains. This topography leads to diverse healthcare needs, from tropical diseases in plains, to road traffic accidents in hills, and to disaster-related emergencies from floods and landslides during monsoon season and unpredictable earthquakes. Emergency medicine care is underdeveloped and is currently being provided by general practitioners. The capital city Kathmandu has a few tertiary healthcare centers with emergency medicine fellowship-trained general practitioners staffing them, bu...
