An unusual deep fungal infection with Nigrospora sphaerica in HIV positive patient
AbstractA 34 ‐year‐old HIV positive male with a CD4+ cell count of 133 cell/mm3 presented with multiple crusted and hemorrhagic ulcers on the face, scalp, trunk, and limbs for 3  months. Skin biopsies showed granulomatous inflammation with microabscesses and lots of hyphae and spores. PCR identified the fungus asNigrospora sphaerica. This is mainly a plant pathogen which rarely causes opportunistic infections in humans. After a thorough literature search we found very few reported cases of human infection by this fungus worldwide but none in Africa. We therefore report the first case of human infection byNigrospora sp...

Cutaneous expression of thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) in vitiligo patients: a case ‐control study
ConclusionThis study revealed lower TSLP mRNA expression levels in vitiliginous skin than in normal skin suggesting an imminent role of TSLP in the pathogenesis of vitiligo. (Source: International Journal of Dermatology)

Itching, chloroquine, and malaria: a review of recent molecular and neuroscience advances and their contribution to mechanistic understanding and therapeutics of chronic non ‐histaminergic pruritus
AbstractChloroquine (CQ) is an antimalarial drug that elicits severe pruritus in black Africans with malaria fever. This acute itching (2 –7 days duration) exhibits age dependency and a racial and genetic predilection. CQ itch is non‐histaminergic, which makes it both a good model and a tool to probe the mechanisms of chronic itch. This review focuses on recently discovered mechanisms, neuroscience, mediators, and receptors that are implicated in molecular studies of CQ pruritus. CQ pruritus mechanisms are also compared to that of itching following other systemic diseases, such as chronic kidney disease, chronic liver...
