Long-term results and quality of life after stapled hemorrhoidopexy vs Doppler-guided HAL-RAR: a propensity score matching analysis
ConclusionsHAL-RAR is a safe and feasible technique in treating grade II-III hemorrhoids showing better outcomes in terms of postoperative pain and QoL.SignificanceThis paper adds a new perspective in comparing the HAL-RAR and SH, focusing the attention on the patients and not surgical techniques. A long and difficult follow-up was completed to fully understand the long-term results and the impact on the QoL of the patients who underwent these procedures. Ethnic disparities in pediatric appendicitis: the impact of hispanic ethnicity on presentation, complications, and postoperative outcomes
ConclusionHispanic children are more likely to present with complicated appendicitis, contributing to increased postoperative complications. Notably, upon adjustment for the impact of complicated appendicitis, our findings suggest potentially favorable outcomes for Hispanic ethnicity. This emphasizes the need to understand delays in presentation to improve outcomes in the Hispanic population. (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)

Is survival after transanal total mesorectal excision (taTME) worse than that after traditional total mesorectal excision? A retrospective propensity score-adjusted cohort study
ConclusiontaTME seems to be a good treatment option for patients with rectal cancer and is unlikely to significantly affect local recurrence or survival. However, further investigations concerning the latter are warranted.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov (NCT0496910). (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)

Sidedness is not a prognostic factor in an unselected cohort of patients with colon cancer but prognosis for caecal carcinoma is worse – A multivariate analysis of a large single institution database
ConclusionIn non-metastatic colon cancer, location in the caecum is an independent prognostic factor. In unselected patients with stage IV colon cancer, sidedness was not found to be a prognostic factor. Differentiation into right- and left-sided tumors may be simplistic, and further studies on the biological behavior of different colonic sites are warranted. Findings in magnetic resonance imaging for restaging locally advanced rectal cancer
ConclusionUnfavorable MRI response is a sign of poor prognosis in LARC. SCRT-delay is comparable to LC-CRT concerning the oncological outcome. (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)
