Association of pre-diagnostic physical exercise and peri-diagnostic body composition with mortality in non-metastatic colorectal cancer
ConclusionsThe combined presence of low pre-diagnostic physical exercise and sarcopenia or myosteatosis was associated with increased CRC-specific mortality. Despite the positive effect on prognosis, physical exercise did not alter body composition estimates at diagnosis, which could indicate attenuation from other factors. The incremental yield of adenoma detection with I-Scan versus high-definition white light colonoscopy —a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized studies
In conclusion, I-Scan increases the yield of adenoma detection by 9% compared to HD-WLE, with low certainty in the estimate of this effect. Data on the gain in yield of detecting large polyps, sessile serrated lesions, and on the impact of formally training endoscopists and trainees in I-Scan use and similar technology on adenoma detection rate are needed. A systematic review of patient risk factors for complications following stoma formation among adults undergoing colorectal surgery
ConclusionGiven the large number of risk factors identified, the implementation of a risk stratification tool may decrease the incidence and prevalence of stoma complication development. This, in turn, would decrease the associated healthcare-related costs, and negative impact on mortality, length of stay and quality of life. (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)

Analysis of prognostic factors in different grades of histologic differentiation in colorectal cancer patients receiving preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy and establishment of prognostic nomograms for moderately differentiated grade
ConclusionsThe independent prognostic factors of CSS and OS are different in patients with different grades of histologic differentiation of CRC who received NAC before the operation. Nomograms can be used to predict the survival of patients with moderately differentiated grade CRC who received preoperative NAC and to assist clinicians in making clinical decisions. The benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy are associated with the kind of neoadjuvant therapy in stage ypI rectal cancer: evidence based on population analysis
ConclusionOur population-based cohort study suggested that the efficacy of ACT was associated with the kind of NAT. The ACT provides survival benefits in stage ypI RC for patients who received nRT. However, among patients who received nCRT, ACT did not improve long-term survival. (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)

Myocardial injury and long-term oncological outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer
ConclusionIn absolute numbers, we found no difference in all-cause mortality and recurrence in patients with and without MINS. In adjusted Cox regression analyses, the hazard was increased for all-cause mortality, recurrence, and disease-free survival in patients with MINS without reaching statistical significance. Diverticulosis and cardiometabolic risk factors: a systematic literature review
ConclusionBased on the synthesized data, there is an association between arterial hypertension, obesity, and fatty liver disease in younger patients. The formation of diverticula seems to be influenced by age and genetic factors. The study suggests a connection with cardiometabolic risk factors. To gain a better understanding of the role of metabolic risk factors in asymptomatic diverticulosis, targeted studies are necessary based on these findings. Postoperative inflammatory response in colorectal cancer surgery: a meta-analysis
ConclusionThe findings of this study indicate a superior inflammatory profile for laparoscopic surgery compared to an open approach for colorectal cancer surgery. For future research, it would be worthwhile to conduct a randomized controlled trial to compare the postoperative inflammatory response and related clinical outcomes between minimally invasive surgical approaches, including laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery. The role of colonoscopy in young patients with rectal bleeding: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionAbout 10% of patients under 50  years with anal bleeding will have a neoplastic lesion detected through colonoscopy. The greatest benefit of the procedure is observed between 40 and 50 years. Almost 30% of the neoplastic lesions were found in the proximal colon and could not be detected without the performance of a complete col onoscopy.
