Oral health ‐related quality of life among Syrian refugees in Jordan: a cross‐sectional study
ConclusionThe physical aspect of quality of life was more negatively impacted than the psychological aspect. Toothbrushing frequency and attending a dental clinic at least once in the last year were associated with more positive OHRQoL scores. Older refugees seemed to be more vulnerable to the impact of poor oral health on OHRQoL. (Source: International Dental Journal)

Local risk indicators – Consensus report of working group 2
In implant dentistry, plaque control and oral hygiene practices are essential to limit the risk of complication and failure in the long term. All conditions around an implant in function that influence the load and pathogenicity of the microbiota are considered local risk indicators. They concern the prosthetic suprastructure design and the possibility for the patient to easily access each implant for plaque removal. Use of cemented prostheses should be limited to avoid excess cement acting as a foreign body and leading to peri ‐implant disease. The crown margins should be supramucosal, and the connection should be preci...

Diagnosis and non ‐surgical treatment of peri‐implant diseases and maintenance care of patients with dental implants – Consensus report of working group 3
AbstractThe following consensus report is based on four background reviews. The frequency of maintenance visits is based on patient risk indicators, homecare compliance and prosthetic design. Generally, a 6 ‐month visit interval or shorter is preferred. At these visits, peri‐implant probing, assessment of bleeding on probing and, if warranted, a radiographic examination is performed. Diagnosis of peri‐implant mucositis requires: (i) bleeding or suppuration on gentle probing with or without increa sed probing depth compared with previous examinations; and (ii) no bone loss beyond crestal bone level changes resulting f...

Surgical treatment of peri ‐implantitis – Consensus report of working group 4
The following consensus report is based on four background reviews (Keeveet  al.,Implant Dent 2019 28(2): 177 –186; Ramanauskaiteet  al.,Implant Dent 2019 28(2): 187 –209; Kooet  al.,Implant Dent 2019 28(2): 173 –176; Sculeanet  al.,Implant Dent 2019 210 –216). The surgical treatment of peri‐implantitis is indicated in the cases where the first choice of treatment, the non‐surgical one, failed with recurrence of bleeding and suppuration. The aim of this review was to systematically screen the literature for possible surface decontamination tec hniques and material during surgical treatment, the surgical reg...

General genetic and acquired risk factors, and prevalence of peri ‐implant diseases – Consensus report of working group 1
AbstractFor decades, oral implants have been used successfully for the replacement of missing teeth. Nevertheless, peri ‐implant diseases have become an increasingly important issue in daily practice. In this working group, the prevalence of peri‐implant mucositis and peri‐implantitis, as well as different general risk factors and their impact on the onset and progression of peri‐implant diseases, were discus sed based on reviews reflecting the current state of evidence. The influence of smoking on the peri‐implant bone‐healing process and its association with peri‐implantitis has been explored in the current...

Obesity and periodontitis in Australian adults: A population ‐based cross‐sectional study
ConclusionA positive association was found between overweight/obesity and periodontitis (PD and CAL). However, the statistical significance disappeared in the multiple variable regression analysis, where age, sex, smoking and dental visiting behaviour were found to be key determinants of periodontitis. A cross ‐sectional analysis of patient care pathways and profiles in a dental emergency department
