Efficacy of Pharmacotherapy for Seasonal Influenza in Young and Middle-aged Adults: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis
Conclusion Several pharmaceutical treatments were able to reduce the recovery time for fever and symptom alleviation and resumption of usual activities in young and middle-aged adults with seasonal influenza without increasing the risk of complications.PMID:38494721 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.2100-23 (Source: Internal Medicine)

An Autopsy Case of Fulminant Myocarditis with Massive Left Ventricular Calcification
Intern Med. 2024;63(6):821-827. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.2200-23. Epub 2024 Mar 15.ABSTRACTMyocardial calcification in myocarditis is rare and may be linked to poor outcomes. We herein report a case of fulminant myocarditis with massive myocardial calcification and its pathological outcomes at autopsy. A 49-year-old man experienced chest pain and was diagnosed with acute myocarditis. His cardiac function did not recover despite mechanical circulatory support in combination with V-A extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and IMPELLA CP®. He eventually developed sepsis and gastrointestinal bleeding and died on day 27. Dif...

Detailed Lipid Profiles and Lipid-related Residual Risk after 12-week 10 mg Rosuvastatin Treatment for Acute Myocardial Infarction
Conclusion More than half of the Japanese AMI patients treated with rosuvastatin 10 mg/day did not achieve the guideline-recommended goal of lipid management and still had lipid-related residual risk at 12 weeks. Particular attention should be paid to patients with low baseline HDL-C levels and those without diabetes with regard to their on-treatment lipid profiles.PMID:38494714 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.3476-24 (Source: Internal Medicine)

A Case of a Patient with Calpainopathy Carrying Compound Heterozygous Mutations of a de novo Pathogenic Variant of c.1333G & gt;A and a Novel Variant of c.1331C & gt;T in CAPN3
Intern Med. 2024 Mar 18. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.3435-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCalpainopathy is primarily an autosomal recessive inherited myopathy; however, dominantly inherited cases with a pathogenic variant of c.1333G>A have been reported. A 13-year-old Japanese girl presented with toe walking and elevated serum creatine kinase levels. Genetic panel testing revealed compound heterozygosity for c.1333G>A and a novel variant of c.1331C>T in CAPN3, leading to a diagnosis of calpainopathy. A genetic analysis of her parents revealed the possibility that c.1333G>A was de novo. In this patient, the ...
