Estimating the burden of influenza ‐associated hospitalization and deaths in Oman (2012‐2015)
ConclusionsInfluenza causes a substantial number of hospitalizations and deaths in Oman. Hospitalization rates were highest among children, and adults ≥65 years showed the highest death rate. The potential value of using seasonal influenza vaccine in these groups should be considered. (Source: Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses)

Estimates of seasonal influenza ‐associated mortality in Bangladesh, 2010‐2012
ConclusionsWe identified a substantial burden of influenza‐associated deaths in Bangladesh suggesting that the introduction of prevention and control measures including seasonal vaccination should be considered by local public health decision‐makers. Risk factors for serious outcomes associated with influenza illness in high ‐ versus low‐ and middle‐income countries: Systematic literature review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionKnown risk factors for serious disease remain important predictors of hospital admission and severe outcomes with few differences between HIC and LMIC countries. These differences likely reflect differences in health‐seeking behaviours and health services, but high heterogeneity between studies limits conclusions about the effect size. T ‐cell epitope content comparison (EpiCC) of swine H1 influenza A virus hemagglutinin
ConclusionEpiCC thresholds can be evaluated for predictive accuracy of protection in future efficacy studies. EpiCC may also complement HI cross‐reactivity and phylogeny for selection of influenza strains in vaccine development. (Source: Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses)

Influenza ‐associated mortality in Yancheng, China, 2011‐15
ConclusionsInfluenza has a substantial impact on respiratory mortality in Yancheng, mainly in older adults. Influenza vaccination has the potential to reduce disease burden, and cost‐effectiveness analysis could be used to compare policy options. (Source: Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses)
