Antibodies Toward Vedolizumab Appear from the First Infusion Onward and Disappear Over Time
Conclusions: AVA appear from the first VDZ infusion onward and disappear over time. The low prevalence of AVA suggests that immunogenicity does not influence response to treatment. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Surgical Outcomes in Vedolizumab-Treated Patients with Ulcerative Colitis
Conclusions: Vedolizumab patients had significantly increased rates of superficial SSI, but not overall infectious complications. Among ileal pouch anal anastomosis patients, peripouch abscess rates were increased among vedolizumab-treated patients, but this did not reach statistical significance. Vedolizumab seems safe in the perioperative period for patients with UC. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Minority Pediatric Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease Demonstrate an Increased Length of Stay
Background: Genetic and other biological factors may lead to differences in disease behavior among children with inflammatory bowel disease of different races, which may be further modified by disparities in care delivery. Using the Kids' Inpatient Database, we aimed to evaluate differences in the management of pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease by race, focusing on length of stay (LOS). Methods: We performed a cross-sectional analysis using 2000 to 2012 data from the Kids' Inpatient Database, a nationally representative database. We identified pediatric patients (≤18 years of age) with discharge dia...

Lasting Impact of Clostridium difficile Infection in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Propensity Score Matched Analysis
Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease are at an increased risk of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI), but the impact of CDI on disease severity is unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of CDI on long-term disease outcome in a matched cohort of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Methods: Patients who tested positive for infection formed the CDI-positive group. We generated a 1:2 propensity matched case to control cohort based on risk factors for CDI in the year before infection. Health care utilization data (emergency department use, hospitalizations, and telephone encounte...

Tissue Drug Concentrations of Anti-tumor Necrosis Factor Agents Are Associated with the Long-term Outcome of Patients with Crohn's Disease
Conclusions: Concentrations of anti-TNF agents in the noninflamed tissue can reflect sustained remission and may be a useful biomarker for monitoring therapeutic intensity in patients with Crohn's disease treated with anti-TNF agents (see Video Abstract, Supplemental Digital Content 1, http://links.lww.com/IBD/B623). Serum Hepcidin in Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Conclusions: In our study, serum hepcidin concentration was significantly decreased in IBD children compared with controls. Hepcidin correlated positively with ferritin, but not with any of inflammatory markers. It may suggest that in our cohort, hepcidin was regulated predominantly by iron storage level. Phenotype and Management of Infantile-onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Experience from a Tertiary Care Center in China
Conclusions: Patients with infantile-onset IBD had severe phenotype and early onset. Medical, surgical interventions with supportive care are essential. High-throughput sequencing ensures appropriate treatment. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation can be performed in selected patients with IL10RA mutations (see Video Abstract, Supplemental Digital Content 1, http://links.lww.com/IBD/B657). Impact of Prostate Cancer and Its Treatment on the Outcomes of Ileal Pouch-Anal Anastomosis
Conclusions: The risk of pouch failure may be increased after the diagnosis of prostate cancer with or without treatment. However, for those with retained pouches, their pouch function and QOL did not seem to be adversely affected. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Obese Patients Undergoing Ileal Pouch–Anal Anastomosis: Short-and Long-term Surgical Outcomes
Background: Ileal pouch–anal anastomosis (IPAA) is the preferred surgical treatment for patients with chronic ulcerative colitis. Little is known about the impact of obesity on operative characteristics, short-term postoperative complications and long-term functional outcomes after IPAA. Methods: A retrospective review of all patients undergoing IPAA for chronic ulcerative colitis at a single tertiary referral center between January 2002 and August 2013 was performed. Thirty-day postoperative complications and long-term functional outcomes were analyzed according to body mass index. Results: Nine hundred nine IPA...

Expression and Clinical Significance of Elafin in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Conclusions: Elafin decreased in active patients with IBD and was negatively correlated with disease activity, suggesting that elafin may play a protective role and could be used as an index to evaluate disease activity in IBD. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Accumulation of HLA-DR4 in Colonic Epithelial Cells Causes Severe Colitis in Homozygous HLA-DR4 Transgenic Mice
Conclusions: The pathogenesis of the colitis observed in the homozygous tgm was likely due to endoplasmic reticulum stress, resulting in goblet cell damage and compromised mucus production in the colonic epithelial cells in which HLA-DR4/I-Ed molecules were heavily accumulated. Commensal bacteria seemed to be involved in the accumulation of HLA-DR4/I-Ed, leading to development of the colitis. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Rapid Infliximab Infusion in Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Multicenter North American Experience
Conclusions: In children with inflammatory bowel disease, rapid IFX infusion administered over 60 minutes is safe and well-tolerated. Findings of Retrograde Contrast Study Through Double-balloon Enteroscopy Predict the Risk of Bowel Resections in Patients with Crohn's Disease with Small Bowel Stenosis
This study aimed to examine whether a retrograde contrast study through DBE could be used as a predictor of subsequent surgery in patients with CD with small intestinal strictures. Methods: The findings of DBE with retrograde contrast in 48 patients CD with small bowel strictures were examined. Results: Of the 48 patients, 14 (29%) underwent surgery for small intestinal strictures during a median observation period of 2.4 years (interquartile range: 1.4–3.7 yr). According to the results of the multivariate analysis, a maximum length of strictures ≥20 mm and the ratio of the maximum diameter of prestenotic dilatio...

Indirect Costs and Family Burden of Pediatric Crohn's Disease in the United States
Background: Crohn's disease (CD) negatively impacts patient quality of life and results in greater healthcare utilization. For pediatric CD patients, the burden also extends to their caregivers. We aimed to estimate work loss and productivity costs among caregivers of pediatric CD patients. Methods: Data were from Truven MarketScan databases (2000–2012). Patients were (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)
