Making sense of conflicting information: A touchscreen paradigm to measure young children's selective trust
AbstractMuch recent research has shown that children from age 4 onwards reveal a robust preference for reliable over unreliable informants when choosing whom to trust and learn from. Findings concerning selective model choice in children younger than 4  years have mostly been mixed. The present study developed a new touchscreen‐based paradigm with reduced task demands in order to test 2‐ and 3‐year‐old children (N = 48). Results showed that 3‐year‐olds selectively endorsed information from a previously reliable rather than a previously unreliable informant when searching for objects whereas 2‐year‐olds j...

Joint visual attention and locomotor experience: A longitudinal study of infants with treated idiopathic clubfoot
AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine the link between joint attention skills and locomotor experiences in infants with locomotor delay due to congenital idiopathic clubfoot compared to typically developing infants. Using a following of point and gaze gesture task, we repeatedly tested joint attention skills of 11 infants with congenital idiopathic clubfoot and 14 typically developing infants at the ages of 6, 9, and 12  months. Additionally, we tested all typically developing infants and eight infants treated for idiopathic clubfoot at onset of crawling on hand and knees and after they had been crawling for about ...

That was last time! The effect of a delay on children's episodic memories of learning new facts
AbstractAccurately remembering how and when one's own learning occurs is an important metacognitive skill that matures during the early school years. In two studies, the impact of a delay on this ability was examined. In Study 1, 30 children in two age groups (4 ‐year‐olds and 5‐year‐olds) participated in two‐staged learning events and were interviewed immediately after each event about the facts they had learned in the events and about how they had acquired them. Children in both age groups learned the facts, but had significant difficulty report ing on their own learning. In Study 2, 79 children in the same age...
