The role of C5a receptors in autoimmunity
Immunobiology. 2023 Jun 20;228(5):152413. doi: 10.1016/j.imbio.2023.152413. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe complement system is an essential component of the innate immune response and plays a vital role in host defense and inflammation. Dysregulation of the complement system, particularly involving the anaphylatoxin C5a and its receptors (C5aR1 and C5aR2), has been linked to several autoimmune diseases, indicating the potential for targeted therapies. C5aR1 and C5aR2 are seven-transmembrane receptors with distinct signaling mechanisms that play both partially overlapping and opposing roles in immunity. Both receptors a...

Shared biomarkers of multi-tissue origin for primary Sjogren's syndrome and their importance in immune microenvironment alterations
In this study, we used various methods to obtain shared biomarkers derived from multiple tissue in pSS patients and to explore their relationship with immune microenvironment alterations. First we identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between pSS and healthy controls utilizing nine mRNA microarray datasets obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Then, shared biomarkers were filtered out using robust rank aggregation (RRA), data integration analysis, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and least absolute selection and shrinkage operator (LASSO) regression; their roles in pSS and associa...

A retrospective observational study to estimate the risk of HLA alloimmunization with blood transfusion: Can the risk be reduced by leucodepletion?
CONCLUSION: Patients who received LD RBC units had a significantly lower rate of transfusion-associated alloimmunization compared to those who received non-LD RBC units. Multiparous women had a high risk for transfusion-related alloimmunization compared to both nulliparous women and male patient. Furthermore, class I-anti-HLA-antibodies (HLA-B and HLA-A + B) were significantly associated with pregnancy sensitization and/or blood transfusion as a single sensitization.PMID:37586300 | DOI:10.1016/j.imbio.2023.152727 (Source: Immunobiology)

Tissue plasminogen activator receptor ANXA2 and its complementary regulator anti-inflammatory ANXA1 as prognostic indicators of inflammatory response in COVID-19 pathogenesis
This study hypothesizes that the pro-inflammatory Annexin A2 (ANXA2) has role in COVID-19 pathogenesis. In thisobservational study, serum levels of ANXA2 along with interleukin 1 beta (IL1β), IL6, tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), and anti-inflammatory ANXA1 were determined by sandwich ELISA in 20 each control, mild, moderate, and severe COVID-19 subjects. The ANXA2 levels (130 ng/mL, p < 0.001) were significantly elevated in severe COVID-19 subjects, compared to mild, moderate and controls. Similarly, all the other pro-inflammatory biomarkers levels were also significantly correlated with disease severity (p < 0...

TLR-2 agonist Pam3CSK4 has no therapeutic effect on visceral leishmaniasis in BALB/c mice and may enhance the pathogenesis of the disease
In this study, TLR-2 agonist Pam3CSK4 showed no therapeutic effect on visceral leishmaniasis in BALB/c mice and might enhance the pathogenesis of the disease possibly due to the down-regulation of several immune-related pathways, which can improve our understanding of the role of TLR-2 in both treatment and vaccine development.PMID:37562277 | DOI:10.1016/j.imbio.2023.152725 (Source: Immunobiology)
