The effects of different periods of co ‐administration of oral and long‐acting injectable aripiprazole: A propensity score analysis
AbstractObjectiveLong ‐acting injectable (LAI) aripiprazole is recommended to be combined with oral aripiprazole for 2 weeks after its introduction. However, we often experience patients who require more than 2 weeks of combined use. Therefore, differences in combination periods need to be examined.MethodsThis was a case –control study. We surveyed prescription profiles for oral aripiprazole administration in conjunction with LAI aripiprazole introduction and assessed the clinical course during a 12‐week follow‐up period.ResultsAmong 121 patients, 58 (47.9%) were administered both oral and LAI aripipr...

Prohedonic properties of gamma ‐hydroxybutyrate are associated with changes in limbic resting‐state functional connectivity
AbstractObjectiveGamma ‐hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is an endogenous GHB‐/GABA‐B receptor agonist and a narcolepsy treatment. However, GHB is also abused for its prohedonic effects. On a neuronal level, it was shown that GHB increases regional cerebral blood flow in limbic areas such as the right anterior insula (rAI) and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). We aimed to further explore the association between the subjective and neuronal signatures of GHB.MethodWe assessed subjective effects and resting ‐state functional connectivity (rsFC) of an rAI‐ and an ACC‐seed in 19 healthy male subjects after GHB (35 mg/k...

The serotonin transporter and the activity regulated cytoskeleton ‐associated protein genes in antidepressant response and resistance: 5‐HTTLPR and other variants
Conclusions5 ‐HTTLPR/rs25531 effect on antidepressant efficacy was modulated by age, in line with previous literature data. STin2 effect on antidepressant efficacy was in line with previous meta‐analyses. A new possible effect of ARC variants on antidepressant efficacy was observed; however, further studies in larger samples are needed to confirm their role. Using the Severity of Dependence Scale to screen for DSM ‐5 khat use disorder
ConclusionAlthough khat is a mild stimulant, there is clear evidence that some consumers are both concerned with their use and experience problems associated with their use. Consistent with its application for other drugs, the SDS is a brief and simple screening tool that appears to validly identify individuals experiencing a khat use disorder syndrome and experiencing high rates of adverse consequences in association with use. Effects of levocetirizine and diphenhydramine on regional glucose metabolic changes and hemodynamic responses in the human prefrontal cortex during cognitive tasks
ConclusionsPhysiological “coupling” between metabolism and perfusion in the healthy human brain may not be maintained under pharmacological influence due to antihistamines. This uncoupling may be caused by a combination of increased energy demands in the prefrontal regions and suppression of vascular permeability in brain capillaries after antihistamine treatment. Further research is needed to validate this hypothesis. (Source: Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental)
