Considerations for Return to Exercise Following Mild-to-Moderate COVID-19 in the Recreational Athlete
AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in significant morbidity and mortality around the world. The spectrum of COVID-19 is broad, from clinical disease requiring intensive medical care to less severe symptoms that are treated with supportive care. The majority of COVID-19 cases fall into the mild-to-moderate category, with symptoms lasting less than 6  weeks. Nevertheless, the morbidity from COVID-19 is significant and can affect multiple body systems, most frequently the cardiac, pulmonary, hematologic, musculoskeletal, and gastrointestinal systems. For patients who wish to return to exercise after mild-to-moderate ...

The Effect of Type of Femoral Component Fixation on Mortality and Morbidity after Hip Hemiarthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
ConclusionsWhile we found that cemented hemiarthroplasty results in less postoperative pain than uncemented hemiarthroplasty in older patients with femoral neck fracture, the lack of significant differences in functional hip scores, mortality, and complications was surprising. Further high-level research is needed. (Source: HSS Journal)

Dual Mobility Total Hip Arthroplasty Is Not Associated with a Greater Incidence of Groin Pain in Comparison with Conventional Total Hip Arthroplasty and Hip Resurfacing:A Retrospective Comparative Study
ConclusionIn this population of hip arthroplasty patients, the incidence of groin pain 1  year after surgery did not differ among patients undergoing DM and conventional THA; DM THA in particular was not associated with a higher risk of groin pain, despite its comparatively larger femoral head sizes. HR, on the other hand, was associated with a higher risk of pain. Appropriate implant sizing and bearing couple choice may optimize the functional benefit of THA. (Source: HSS Journal)

Association of Claustrophobia and Anxiety with Cast Intolerance in Patients with Extremity Injuries
ConclusionsOur hypothesis was not supported. Although we did not find a relationship between claustrophobia and cast intolerance, we did find significant correlations between anxiety and pain. The tolerant group ’s initial and final pain scores had significantly positive correlations to final anxiety, suggesting that pain is likely to cause or increase anxiety; indeed, as pain decreased, so did anxiety. The intolerant group, however, had a significant negative correlation between initial pain and final an xiety scores. It would not be expected that lower pain scores would increase anxiety. This may suggest that cast-into...

Hip-Sparing Equalization Procedures for Leg-Length Discrepancy After Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Retrospective Case Series
ConclusionWe believe that hip-sparing equalization procedures can be part of the treatment algorithm of LLD after THA. These advancements in the field are promising and might expand the indications of lengthening and equalization procedures to include LLD after THA. (Source: HSS Journal)

Delivering Telerehabilitation to COVID-19 Inpatients:A Retrospective Chart Review Suggests It Is a Viable Option
ConclusionsInpatient telerehabilitation appears to be a viable option for selected hospitalized patients with COVID-19 and may be a safe way of delivering inpatient rehabilitation to isolated or at-risk populations. At our hospital, the use of inpatient telerehabilitation reduced staff exposure while providing important education and services to patients. To our knowledge, no studies have investigated the use of telerehabilitation for hospitalized patients, including those with COVID-19. Our findings suggest that this innovative approach warrants further study. (Source: HSS Journal)

Reliability and Validity of Acetabular and Femoral Bone Loss Classification Systems in Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review
ConclusionAlthough surgical techniques, treatment options, and advanced imaging available to the surgeon have evolved over the past few decades, the acetabular and femoral bone loss classification systems, first developed in the 1990s, have remained largely unchanged. Our results indicate that improvements to these systems are necessary in order for them to be as useful as possible in planning the surgical course. (Source: HSS Journal)
