Goiter in the Qing Dynasty
Hormones (Athens). 2024 Feb 15. doi: 10.1007/s42000-024-00534-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEmpress Dowager Cixi, the supreme ruler of China's Qing Dynasty, along with Imperial Concubine Jin, may have suffered from goiter. Our suspicions were aroused by two interesting historical photographs. Herein, we provide a medical interpretation of these historical images in an attempt to present the cases of these two historical figures.PMID:38358428 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00534-1 (Source: Hormones)

Effect of different starting doses of FSH on laboratory and clinical outcomes in patients with moderate AMH level
CONCLUSIONS: The starting dose of FSH in the moderate AMH population remains controversial and a higher starting dose may not lead to more benefit in laboratory and clinical outcomes.PMID:38342850 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00527-0 (Source: Hormones)

Impaired sensitivity to thyroid hormones is associated with albuminuria in the euthyroid population: results from NHANES
CONCLUSIONS: In euthyroid subjects, impaired central sensitivity to thyroid hormones is associated with albuminuria. TFQI holds significant potential as an epidemiological tool for quantifying the impact of impaired central sensitivity on the risk of albuminuria.PMID:38340288 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00533-2 (Source: Hormones)

The clinical significance of calcium/magnesium ratio in primary hyperparathyroidism: unveiling a clinical association
CONCLUSION: Ca/Mg and cCa/Mg ratios in particular seem more valuable in determining the presence of nephrolithiasis than the currently used 24-h urine Ca measurement. Compared to urinary Ca measurements, they are cheaper, more practical, and more accessible.PMID:38332247 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00530-5 (Source: Hormones)

Priorities for efficacy trials of gender-affirming hormone therapy with estrogen: collaborative design and results of a community survey
CONCLUSION: The goals and experiences of individuals seeking GAHT-E are diverse. Future clinical trials of GAHT-E should be grounded in the needs and priorities of community stakeholders.PMID:38311658 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00532-3 (Source: Hormones)

HNF1A gene mutations and premature ovarian failure (POF): evidence from a clinical paradigm combining MODY 3 and POF
We examined HNF1A expression in human fetal and adult ovaries by immunohistochemistry using a polyclonal HNF1A antibody. HNF1A protein was expressed in both the fetal and adult human ovaries. Based on these findings, we hypothesize that HNF1A participates in ovarian organogenesis and/or function and that mutations in the HNF1A gene might represent another molecular defect causing POF, possibly in combination with other genetic factors. The study underlines the importance of rare clinical paradigms in leading the way to elucidation of the pathogenetic mechanisms of rare diseases.PMID:38311659 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00529-y (Source: Hormones)

Effects of letrozole alone or in combination with gonadotropins on ovulation induction and clinical pregnancy in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: Letrozole in combination with gonadotropin is superior to letrozole alone in improving ovulation induction and clinical pregnancy among PCOS patients. More trials are required to confirm our findings.PMID:38280115 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00531-4 (Source: Hormones)

Body composition changes in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer after iodine-131 treatment and short-term levothyroxine replacement and suppression therapy
CONCLUSIONS: After RAI and short-term LT4 supplementation in DTC patients, body composition rapidly and positively changed and was characterized by decreased fat mass and increased BMC and BMD.PMID:38277093 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00528-z (Source: Hormones)

Antiosteoporosis therapy after discontinuation of menopausal hormone therapy: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Antiresorptive therapy with either a bisphosphonate (i.e., alendronate) or raloxifene could be considered a sequential antiosteoporosis therapy after MHT withdrawal since they have been shown in studies to further increase BMD. However, no safe conclusions can be drawn from the existing literature.PMID:38236381 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00526-1 (Source: Hormones)
