Prognostic Value of Long Noncoding RNA SNHG11 in Patients with Prostate Cancer
Horm Metab Res 2022; 54: 187-193 DOI: 10.1055/a-1745-8952The present study was aimed to explore the prognostic value of long noncoding RNA SNHG11 in prostate cancer, study its expression, and assess its effect on tumor progression. One hundred and twenty prostate cancer patients and 45 cases of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) patients were collected. RT-qPCR was used to test the expression of SNHG11 in prostate cancer and BPH tissues, as well as in cell lines. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox regression assays were introduced to evaluate the prognostic mea...

Serum CYR61 Levels are Associated with Graves ’ Ophthalmopathy and Smoking in Patients with Graves’ Disease
In conclusion, our results indicate that smoking and age increase serum CYR61 levels in patients with GD and GO. The role of CYR61 as a predictor of GO in patients with GD should be evaluated in prospective studies. Assessment of Neuroendocrine Changes and Hypothalamo-Pituitary Autoimmunity in Patients with COVID-19
We examined a total of 49 patients with COVID-19 and 28 healthy controls. The frequency of adrenal insufficiency in patients with COVID-19 was found as 8.2%. Patients with COVID-19 had lower free T3, IGF-1, and total testosterone levels, and higher cortisol and prolactin levels when compared with controls. We also demonstrated the presence of APA in three and AHA in one of four patients with adrenal insufficiency. In conclusion, COVID-19 may result in adrenal insufficiency, thus routine screening of adrenal functions in these patients is needed. Endocr...

Characteristics of Interferon-Associated Diabetes Mellitus in Past 30 Years: A Review
Horm Metab Res 2022; 54: 145-152 DOI: 10.1055/a-1749-5716Interferon (IFN) is a broad-spectrum antiviral agent that activates cell surface receptors and causes cells to produce antiviral proteins, inhibiting viral replication. Interferon use has long been associated with diabetes. The PubMed database was searched for articles related to diabetes and interferon from March 30, 2020. Patients were divided into type 1 diabetes group and type 2 diabetes group. We reviewed the relevant literature to compare interferon-associated T1D and interferon-associated T2D differen...

Comparison of Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Cystic Fibrosis Patients With or Without Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency
This study aimed to compare continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in cystic fibrosis (CF) according to pancreatic exocrine status. CGM and oral glucose tolerance testing (OGTT) were realized annually over five years in people with CF (pwCF) aged≥10 years without cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD). CGM parameters in patients with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and newly diagnosed CFRD were compared according to presence of pancreatic sufficiency (PS) or insufficiency (PI). Overall, 547 OGTTs and 501 CGMs were performed in 147...

Adipokine ZAG Alters Depression-Like Behavior by Regulating Oxidative Stress in Hippocampus
Horm Metab Res DOI: 10.1055/a-1759-3554Zinc-α2-glycoprotein (ZAG) is an adipokine involved in body metabolism, and now it has been shown to be present in the brain and play a role in some neurological diseases such as epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease. In the present study, we employed ZAG knockout (KO) mice to investigate the effects of ZAG on behaviors after fasting and in vitro used overexpression (OV) ZAG in HT-22 cells to further clarify the possibly underlying mechanism. The results showed that ZAG exists widely in the brain tissues of mice and significant...

Silencing LncRNA PVT1 Reverses High Glucose-Induced Regulation of the High Expression of PVT1 in HRMECs by Targeting miR-128-3p
Horm Metab Res 2022; 54: 119-125 DOI: 10.1055/a-1730-5091This paper aims to discuss the possibility of lncRNA PVT1 as a diagnostic biomarker for diabetic retinopathy (DR) and explore the underlying mechanism. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was selected to determine the expression level of lncRNA PVT1 in the serum of all subjects. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve reflected the diagnostic significance of PVT1 for DR patients. The Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and Transwell assays were used to evaluate the effect of PVT1 exp...

Association Between Prediabetes and Osteoarthritis: A Meta-Analysis
Horm Metab Res 2022; 54: 104-112 DOI: 10.1055/a-1730-5251Some studies have suggested that diabetes may be a risk factor for osteoarthritis. However, whether prediabetes is also associated with osteoarthritis has not been comprehensively examined. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the relationship between prediabetes and osteoarthritis. This meta-analysis included relevant observational studies from Medline, Embase, and Web of Science databases. A random-effect model after incorporation of the intra-study heterogeneity was selected to pool the results. ...

The Scope of HbA1c Variability and Risk of Vascular Complications Among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Prospective Studies
Horm Metab Res 2022; 54: 94-103 DOI: 10.1055/a-1730-4904Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) variability is emerging as an indicator of long-term glycemic control, which may play a significant role during vascular complications. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the association between the scope of HbA1c variability and vascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. PubMed and Embase were searched for studies that evaluated the association of HbA1c variability with vascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes. Two re...
