Importance of aspirin challenges in patients with NSAID-exacerbated respiratory disease
CONCLUSION: ASA challenges have high sensitivity and specificity. In clinical ASA challenge studies, there is a high concordance between a positive history of NSAID hypersensitivity obtained by rhinologists and the measured data of ASA challenge in patients with CRSwNP and comorbid asthma. Therefore, ASA challenge is primarily indicated in patients with an unclear history of NSAID hypersensitivity.PMID:38597968 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-024-01460-9 (Source: HNO)

Antiseptics in otorhinolaryngology-a  substance overview
HNO. 2024 Apr 9. doi: 10.1007/s00106-024-01456-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFor preoperative skin antisepsis, alcohol-containing iodine solutions and octenidine are suitable. For wound antisepsis, polyhexanide and hypochlorous acid (HOCL) are also available, but only PVP-iodine and HOCL can be applied to cartilage. Chlorhexidine should only be used as mouth- and bodywash for Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) decolonization. For the many other throat antiseptics, evidence of clinical efficacy is lacking. For decolonization of the nares, polyhexanide and octenidine are available as nasal gels, but these are inferior to mupiro...

Prehospital care of anaphylactic reactions by the air rescue and ground-based emergency services Dresden : An analysis of treatment and outcome
CONCLUSION: Guideline-compliant first-line therapy with adrenaline was not performed in the majority of the cases analyzed in this study. The significant effect of adrenaline on outcome demonstrated in this study emphases the need to improve the emergency treatment of anaphylactic reactions.PMID:38592478 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-024-01457-4 (Source: HNO)

Use of flexible transnasal esophagogastroscopy in patients with unclear globus sensation
CONCLUSION: TNE is a quick and safe examination method for diagnosing patients with an unclear globus sensation. Detection of a hiatal hernia can be seen as an indication of reflux disease. Lack of evidence of a hernia does not rule out reflux. Thus, TNE is a useful addition to pH monitoring in patients with globus sensation, because reflux-related changes in the mucosa can be recognized early and adequately treated.PMID:38592479 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-024-01462-7 (Source: HNO)

Increased report completeness and satisfaction with structured neurotological reporting in the interdisciplinary assessment of vertigo
CONCLUSION: Neurotological SRs enable a significantly increased report completeness with higher referrer satisfaction in the context of interdisciplinary assessment of vertigo. Furthermore, SRs are particularly suitable for scientific data analysis, especially in the context of big data analyses.PMID:38592481 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-024-01464-5 (Source: HNO)
