Expression and hypermethylation of JAM and EPB41L3 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma: Clinical significance and applications
This study aimed to explore the expression and hypermethylation of EPB41L3 and JAM3 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) and to investigate their clinical significance. JAM3 and EPB41L3 mRNA expression was analyzed using a public database, and protein expression was detected using immunohistochemistry. The methylation status of JAM3 and EPB41L3 was detected in CSCC tissues and cervical cytological specimens using a quantitative methylation-specific PCR (qMSP). JAM3 and EPB41L3 mRNA were downregulated in CSCC. The JAM3 protein was positively detected in 39.4% of CSCC tissues and frequently expressed in those with lowe...

Melan-A expression in non-melanocytic carcinoma: A potential diagnostic pitfall
CONCLUSIONS: Melan-A expression is relatively rare in non-melanocytic carcinoma cases. This report highlights a potential diagnostic pitfall in the diagnosis of melanoma, urges pathologists to exercise caution in cases of Melan-A positivity, and illustrates the need for an immunohistochemical marker panel to avoid misdiagnosis.PMID:38205829 | DOI:10.14670/HH-18-696 (Source: Histology and Histopathology)

Identification and validation of plasma AGRN as a novel diagnostic biomarker of hepatitis B Virus-related chronic hepatitis and liver fibrosis/cirrhosis
CONCLUSION: The current study indicated that AGRN could be a potential plasma biomarker and the established PA model could improve the diagnostic accuracy for HBV-related liver diseases.PMID:38197199 | DOI:10.14670/HH-18-695 (Source: Histology and Histopathology)

The role of HSP40 in cancer: Recent advances
Histol Histopathol. 2023 Dec 19:18693. doi: 10.14670/HH-18-693. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHeat shock proteins (HSPs) are a family of proteins involved in protein folding and maturation that are expressed by cells in response to stressors including heat shock. Recent studies have demonstrated that HSPs play major roles in carcinogenesis by regulating angiogenesis, cell proliferation, migration, invasion, metastasis, apoptosis, as well as therapy resistance to certain anticancer drugs. Despite being the largest and most diverse subgroup of the HSP family, HSP40 (DNAJ) is an understudied family of co-chaperones. HSP40 fam...

An overview of chemically induced rodent models for sporadic colorectal cancer: Histopathological and translational perspectives
Histol Histopathol. 2023 Dec 18:18692. doi: 10.14670/HH-18-692. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlobally, colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most frequently diagnosed human gastrointestinal neoplasia and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in both men and women. Despite considerable efforts currently devoted to the study of the biology and treatment of CRC, patient prognosis and survival are still poor. Sporadic CRC is a complex multistep disease and usually emerges in the setting of lifestyle and dietary changes mainly observed in industrialized countries with high human development index (HDI) (westernized ...

Annexin-A1 short peptide alleviates septic myocardial injury by upregulating SIRT3 and inhibiting myocardial cell apoptosis
This study aimed to investigate whether ANXA1sp exerts its anti-apoptotic effect in septic myocardial injury in vitro and in vivo via regulating SIRT3. In this study, we established in vivo and in vivo models of septic myocardial injury based on C57BL/6 mice and primary cardiomyocytes by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induction. Results showed that ANXA1sp pretreatment enhanced the seven-day survival rate, improved left ventricular ejection fraction (EF), left ventricular fractional shortening (FS), and cardiac output (CO), and reduced the levels of creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), cardiac troponin I (cTnI), and lactate dehydrogenase...

Autoimmune hepatitis with confluent necrosis indicates severe liver injury but responds well to standard immunosuppressive therapy
Histol Histopathol. 2023 Dec 14:18690. doi: 10.14670/HH-18-690. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe aimed to study the effects of different extensive confluent necrosis on complete biochemical remission, side effects of immunosuppressants, and outcomes in patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). Patients with liver biopsy, receiving standard immunosuppressive therapy (IST), and regular follow-up were retrospectively recruited. Demographic and clinicopathological characteristics between Ishak confluent necrosis scores ≤4 (the non-severe AIH group) and ≥5 (the severe AIH group) were compared. The Kaplan-Meier Survival anal...
