Gait pattern in patients treated with a total hip arthroplasty due to an acute displaced cervical neck fracture: a randomised comparison between 29 cases with a cemented femoral stem and 16 cases with an uncemented femoral stem
CONCLUSIONS: Increased hip flexion and reduced extension in patients using the Lubinus SP II cemented stem could be an effect of its anteverted neck, but this question requires further study. Despite acute treatment with THA, hip fracture patients demonstrated a change in gait pattern compared with controls 2 years after the operation. This suggests that these changes are caused by the presence of an implant, or the soft-tissue trauma partly caused by the surgery than by any degenerative disease present in patients undergoing elective surgery.ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT04791605.PMID:38087800 | DOI:10.1177/1120700023...

Inflammatory bowel disease patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty have higher odds of implant-related complications
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with IBD who underwent primary THA had a significantly higher risk of implant-related complications compared to matched controls. Providers should use this study to appropriately assess post-complication risk factors for their patients with IBD.PMID:38087839 | DOI:10.1177/11207000231214768 (Source: Hip International)

Previous external beam radiation therapy for pelvic malignancy increases complications of total hip arthroplasty
CONCLUSIONS: Prior EBRT for pelvic malignancy was associated with significantly increased rates of all-cause revision, septic revision, and loosening as well as 90-day medical complications.PMID:38087843 | DOI:10.1177/11207000231216070 (Source: Hip International)

What is the most appropriate comparator group to use in assessing the performance of primary total hip prostheses within the community?
CONCLUSIONS: The calculation of the comparator revision rate should be re-evaluated to include only modern prosthesis constructs to ensure that poorly performing prostheses are identified early.PMID:38087860 | DOI:10.1177/11207000231216708 (Source: Hip International)

The Association of Inflammatory Bowel Disease with Postoperative Complications, Re-admissions and Emergency Department Visits Following Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty
CONCLUSIONS: This study found that patients with IBD are at increased risk of 90-day medical complications, re-admissions, and ED visits. Due to its systemic nature, surgeons operating on these patients should be aware of the disease's extra-intestinal manifestations, and the potential postoperative risks in IBD patients. Providers should use this investigation when educating patients on potential risks of elective THA.PMID:38073282 | DOI:10.1177/11207000231216106 (Source: Hip International)

Providing a computationally derived, mechanically optimised target correction during preoperative planning can improve joint contact mechanics of hip dysplasia treated with periacetabular osteotomy
CONCLUSIONS: Providing hip surgeons with a patient-specific, computationally optimal reorientation during preoperative planning may improve contact mechanics after PAO, which may help reduce osteoarthritis progression in patients with hip dysplasia.PMID:38073284 | DOI:10.1177/11207000231212403 (Source: Hip International)

Early- to mid-term outcome of a short, cementless, titanium, flat, tapered stem for primary total hip arthroplasty: an independent series
CONCLUSIONS: The 7-year survivorship of the Taperloc Microplasty stem is within National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. Patients ⩽65 years with osteoarthritis and Dorr A/B femoral morphology may be ideal candidates for THA with this stem. Femoral remodelling is common and not associated with adverse outcome.PMID:38073478 | DOI:10.1177/11207000231216421 (Source: Hip International)

Long-term follow-up and survival of delayed total hip arthroplasty following acetabular fracture: a matched cohort study of 552 cases from the Norwegian Arthroplasty Register
CONCLUSIONS: THA following an acetabular fracture can be performed with acceptable results regarding implant survival, however, we report an increased risk for revision when compared to primary OA. Our results indicate that previous operative fracture treatment does not increase the risk for THA revision compared to cases treated non-operatively.PMID:37990005 | DOI:10.1177/11207000231212884 (Source: Hip International)
