Replacement of sulfonamide by sulfoximine within a helicase-primase inhibitor with restricted flexibility
Bioorg Med Chem Lett. 2024 Apr 18:129761. doi: 10.1016/j.bmcl.2024.129761. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHelicase-primase is an interesting target for the therapy of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections. Since amenamevir is already approved for varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and HSV in Japan and pritelivir has received breakthrough therapy status for the treatment of acyclovir-resistant HSV infections in immunocompromised patients, the target has sparked interest in me-too approaches. Here, we describe the attempt to improve nervous tissue penetration in Phaeno Therapeutics drug candidate HN0037 to target the latent reservo...

Herpes zoster of posterior division of mandibular branch of trigeminal nerve
We present a case of an otherwise healthy male who developed a vesicular rash confined to the distribution of the posterior division of the mandibular nerve. Though the entire mandibular nerve arises from a single ganglion, the skin area supplied by the anterior division of the mandibular nerve was spared. This case provides evidence to show that there is anatomic segregation of cell bodies of nerves traversing anterior and posterior divisions of mandibular division in the trigeminal ganglion and that partial involvement of a sensory root ganglion is possible in immunocompetent patients.PMID:38642932 | PMC:PMC11033655 | DO...

Oncolytic virotherapy stimulates anti ‑tumor immune response and demonstrates activity in advanced sarcoma: Report of two cases
Oncol Lett. 2024 Apr 3;27(6):244. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14377. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTSarcoma is derived from mesenchymal neoplasms and has numerous subtypes, accounting for 1% of all adult malignancies and 15% of childhood malignancies. The prognosis of metastatic or recurrent sarcoma remains poor. The current study presents two cases of sarcoma enrolled in a phase I dose escalation trial for solid tumor, who had previously failed all standard therapies. These patients were treated with VG161, an immune-stimulating herpes simplex virus type 1 oncolytic virus with payloads of IL-12, IL-15 and IL-15 receptor α unit, a...

Herpes Zoster Chorioretinopathy: A Case Series
CONCLUSIONS: Our series suggests that herpetic chorioretinopathy may be a relatively benign process that presents late and may involve large areas of the posterior choroid.PMID:38639557 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2338271 (Source: Herpes)

Radiofrequency regulation of the sphenopalatine ganglion in managing herpes zoster ophthalmicus neuralgia: A case series
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicated that CT-guided radiofrequency regulation of the pterygopalatine fossa sphenopalatine ganglion was a safe and effective intervention for pain in patients with trigeminal ophthalmic zoster neuralgia, suggesting that it may be a therapeutic option if other treatments fail.PMID:38640323 | PMC:PMC11029985 | DOI:10.1097/MD.0000000000037884 (Source: Herpes)

Neurorehabilitation Strategies: Assessing the Impact on Postoperative Psychological State, Pain, and Complications in Trigeminal Neuralgia
CONCLUSION: Continuous comprehensive rehabilitation intervention can effectively reduce the degree of postoperative pain in patients with trigeminal neuralgia, help to regulate their psychological state, and reduce the occurrence of complications, which has certain clinical application value.PMID:38641264 | DOI:10.1016/j.jneumeth.2024.110142 (Source: Herpes)

Molecular characterization of equine herpes viruses type 1 and 4 among Arabian horse populations in Egypt during the period between 2021 and 2022
CONCLUSION: The current investigation showed that molecular methods are appropriate assays for an efficient and accurate diagnosis of EHVs. Furthermore, it supports earlier research findings about the prevalence of EHV-1 and 4 in Arabian horse populations in Egypt.PMID:38633187 | PMC:PMC11018441 | DOI:10.5455/OVJ.2024.v14.i1.48 (Source: Herpes)

Estimates of the incidence, prevalence, and factors associated with common sexually transmitted infections among Lebanese women
CONCLUSIONS: The study documented active infection with substantial prevalence for multiple STIs among women attending outpatient gynecology and obstetrics clinics in Lebanon. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening STI surveillance, linkage to care, and prevention interventions in reducing STI incidence among women.PMID:38635688 | PMC:PMC11025747 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0301231 (Source: Herpes)

Pregabalin-induced delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity reaction occurring after 40 days of use: a case report
We report a rare case of a delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity reaction caused by pregabalin, which was confirmed by a drug provocation test. A 72-year-old man with severe herpes zoster neuralgia developed maculopapular drug eruption covering 80% to 90% of his total body surface area after 40 days of combined multidrug analgesia. A drug provocation test for pregabalin was positive. The time interval between initiating medication and the onset of the patient's rash was the longest and he also had the largest area of skin affected compared with patients with a similar condition in previous related reports. Remaining vigilant ...

Exploring the association between erythema multiforme and HIV infection: some mechanisms and implications
This article highlights the potential direct and indirect role that HIV infection may play in the development of EM and the clinical dilemma that arises in the management of HIV-infected patients with this condition. These patients may require additional medications to manage opportunistic infections, many of which can also trigger hypersensitivity reactions leading to EM.PMID:38637892 | PMC:PMC11027329 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-024-00607-6 (Source: Herpes)

< em > Gardnerella vaginalis < /em > : Is it an Underestimated Cause of Urinary Symptoms in Males?
CONCLUSION: With the introduction of multiplex PCR tests, including those for G. vaginalis, we can expect a higher detection rate of these species of bacteria in male genitourinary samples, which could be the cause of unexplained urinary/urethral symptoms.PMID:38633399 | PMC:PMC10986695 | DOI:10.36519/idcm.2022.172 (Source: Herpes)

Public Perception in Saudi Arabia Toward Herpes Zoster and Its Vaccination: A Cross-Sectional Study
Conclusion This study shows a general lack of awareness about HZ and its vaccination in Saudi Arabia, including misconceptions about vaccination availability, recommendations, and the disease's complications. Gender differences in attitude and interest highlight the potential for tailored educational campaigns. Addressing these issues is essential for improving vaccination rates and mitigating HZ's impact.PMID:38628378 | PMC:PMC11019398 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.58360 (Source: Herpes)

Understanding dynamics and overlapping epidemiologies of HIV, HSV-2, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis in sexual networks of men who have sex with men
CONCLUSION: STI epidemiologies demonstrate substantial overlap and associations, alongside nuanced differences that shape a unique pattern for each STI. Gonorrhea exhibits an "intermediate STI epidemiology," reflected by the highest average correlation coefficient with other STIs.PMID:38628844 | PMC:PMC11018893 | DOI:10.3389/fpubh.2024.1335693 (Source: Herpes)
