Incisional hernias post cytoreductive surgery/peritonectomy and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsIH post CRS plus  or minus HIPEC were in the expected range for midline laparotomies. IH in patients receiving HIPEC may occur at a greater proportion than in non-HIPEC patients, however, there were too few studies in our meta-analysis to determine this with statistical significance. Trends in outcomes of 862 giant hiatus hernia repairs over 30  years
ConclusionHernia recurrence rates decreased with increasing case volume. This coincided with the increasing adoption of “composite repair”, supporting the possible improvement in recurrence rates with this approach. (Source: Hernia)

Staged abdominal wall reconstruction in the setting of complex gastrointestinal reconstruction
ConclusionPlanned two-stage operations for GIR/AWR may distribute operative complexity and post-operative morbidity into separate surgical interventions. However, many patients may never undergo the intended definitive S2 herniorrhaphy. Future evaluation of 1- versus 2-stage GIR/AWR is needed to clarify indications for each approach. This work must also consider the frequent deviations from intended clinical course demonstrated in this study. (Source: Hernia)

Heavyweight versus non-heavyweight mesh in ventral hernia repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionOur study found that HW mesh was associated with more foreign body sensation. Also, open retromuscular repairs analysis showed that HW was associated with more seromas. Further randomized studies are needed to understand better the role of HW mesh in ventral hernia repair. (Source: Hernia)
