The feasibility and safety of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair as a 24-h day surgery for patients aged 80  years and older: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionIn our study, LIHR as a 24-h day surgery was safe and effective for patients over 80  years old. However, to reduce the rate of delayed discharge, cautious perioperative evaluation is necessary. (Source: Hernia)

Unplanned readmissions after hernia repair
ConclusionSince the steady development of day-care surgery, the prevention of the UR not only hinges on the prevention of the POC but newly on a better organization of outpatient care which is currently a huge challenge due to a GPs ’ and nurses’ shortage in France. (Source: Hernia)

Assessing the mFI-5 frailty score and functional status in geriatric patients undergoing inguinal hernia repairs
ConclusionThe mFI-5 is predictive of complications in geriatric inguinal hernia repairs, especially in emergent cases. Frail patients with non-independent functional status are most at risk and, thus  require proactive and watchful perioperative care.Graphical abstract (Source: Hernia)

Impact of cadaver training for learning abdominal wall reconstruction: our early experience
ConclusionThe cadaver model training program was found to be effective in reducing the learning curve and being replicable. This suggests its potential for widespread implementation as an introductory training model for learning the anatomy of abdominal wall and adapting this for treating hernias requiring AWR. Day-case and in-patient elective inguinal hernia repair surgery across England: an observational study of variation and outcomes
ConclusionsFor the outcomes studied, we found no consistent evidence that day-case elective inguinal hernia repair was unsafe for selected patients. Currently, there is substantial variation between ICBs in terms of delivering day-case surgery. Reducing this variability may help address the current pressures on the NHS in elective surgery.
