Choices between money and hyper-palatable food: Choice impulsivity and eating behavior.
Conclusions: Choice impulsivity may be specific to foods that are hyper-palatable. Results suggest that individuals with excess HPF intake, higher HPF craving, and higher BMIs may exhibit a general tendency toward impulsive decision making that may be exacerbated in an obesogenic environment that provides wide access to HPF. Association of quantitative information and patient knowledge about prostate cancer outcomes.
Conclusion: Despite concerns about patients’ capacity to process quantitative information, we found that patients’ knowledge about cancer risks is positively associated with a certain amount of quantitative information. In the consultations, patients need to receive quantitative information that is well balanced with qualitative explanations. Habit and goal-related constructs in determining toothbrushing behavior: Two sensor-based longitudinal studies.
Conclusions: The partial support for the dual-process account suggests the need of using habit-based interventions to complement intention-based interventions when attempting to change oral health routines. Our findings also highlight the importance of affective aspects of toothbrushing behavior and the potential to incorporate sensor-based objective measures in research and interventions. Evacuation- and hurricane-related experiences, emotional distress, and their associations with mothers’ health risk behaviors.
Conclusions: Stressful experiences before, during, and after hurricanes are associated with mothers’ health-risk behaviors via postevent emotional distress. Health interventions should include strategies that help parents cope with the impact of extreme weather events, both before and after such events occur. Mothers’ distress potentially could affect child health. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Health Psychology)

Parallel reductions in anxiety and HIV-related worry among pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) users over time.
Conclusions: These data provide some of the first quantitative evidence for the potential of PrEP to reduce both HIV worry and anxiety symptoms. Emphasizing positive mental health “side effects” of PrEP may be a strategy for engaging priority populations in biomedical HIV prevention. Psychological outcomes in advanced cancer patients after receiving genomic tumor profiling results.
Conclusion: Further research on interventions to best support patients undergoing CGP with high anxiety, hopelessness, fear of cancer progression, and poorer health is urgently needed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Health Psychology)

Association of illness mindsets with health-related quality of life in cancer survivors.
This study aimed to examine the association between mindsets—established, but mutable beliefs that a person holds—and health-related quality of life in survivors of breast and gynecologic cancer. Method: A cross-sectional survey study was conducted with breast and gynecologic cancer survivors. Measures included the Illness Mindset Questionnaire and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G). Results: Two hundred seventy-three survivors (74% breast/26% gynecologic) who were on average 3.9 years post-diagnosis (SD = 4.2), Mage 55 (SD = 12) completed the survey (response rate 80%). Of the survivors, 20.1% (N...

Illness perception profiles and psychological and physical symptoms in newly diagnosed advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
Conclusions: New data add to the clinical portrayal of patients coping with NSCLC since the availability of new therapies and survival improvements. Other disease groups have reported a predominance of positive perceptions, rather than ones of significant cognitive and emotional struggles found here. Illness perception data may provide content-rich resources for intervention tailoring. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Health Psychology)

Health coaching and genetic risk testing in primary care: Randomized controlled trial.
Conclusions: Remote HC after SRA increased physical activity, which was sustained 6-months later. Incorporating GRT into SRA warrants further exploration regarding the potential to leverage HC for weight loss in elevated T2D risk participants, and for depression in lower T2D risk participants. Four-symptom model of medical-related posttraumatic stress among adult cancer patients.
Conclusions: Findings extend the application of the four posttraumatic stress symptoms to patients with chronic major medical illness (cancer) and their family caregivers. Assessment and treatment of subclinical, yet substantial psychological distress precipitated by major medical illness like cancer are warranted. Precarious manhood and intentions to initiate preexposure prophylaxis among Black sexual minority men.
Conclusions: Findings suggest that BSMM’s construal of masculinity in relation to HIV and PrEP is associated with intentions to initiate PrEP. Implications for increasing PrEP uptake among BSMM are discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Health Psychology)

Associations between behavioral flexibility and health behavior in cardiac patients in the Do CHANGE trials.
Conclusions: This is the first study to examine the association between behavioral flexibility and health behaviors in cardiac patients. Current results showed a positive association between behavioral flexibility and health behaviors over time. More research is needed to further examine causal effects of behavioral flexibility on health behaviors. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Health Psychology)

Diabetes-specific functioning in parents of young children with recently diagnosed type 1 diabetes.
Conclusions: Results provide initial support for a model of parent diabetes specific-functioning at young child T1D diagnosis. Future research may examine this model in relation to children’s glycemic outcomes over the first year after diagnosis. Implications are made for parent screening at the time of YC-T1D diagnosis. Improving an old way to measure moderation effect in standardized units.
Moderation effects in multiple regression, tested usually by the inclusion of a product term, are frequently investigated in health psychology. However, several issues in presenting the moderation effects in standardized units and their associated confidence intervals are commonly observed. While an old method had been proposed to standardize variables in moderated regression before fitting a moderated regression model, this method was rarely used due to inconvenience and even when used, the confidence intervals derived were biased. Here, we attempt to solve these two problems by providing a tool to conveniently conduct st...

Effects of daily peer problems on sleep and the severity of pediatric asthma symptoms.
Conclusions: The findings provide novel evidence for everyday peer stress as a developmentally relevant health risk factor among adolescents with asthma. Insofar as daily peer problems were associated with elevated asthma symptoms via impaired sleep, psychosocial interventions focusing on the peer context may help mitigate maladaptive health behaviors and asthma morbidity.
